All good things must come to an end, and this weekend, the "Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy" finally melts with the debut of apocalyptic robo-comedy "The World's End." Beginning with 2004's romantic zombie comedy "Shaun of the Dead" and continuing with 2007's buddy comedy send-up "Hot Fuzz," the loose trilogy and the films within are wild, visually stunning homages to very specific genres, all of them directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. (Pegg also co-wrote all three.) Wright, Pegg and Frost all return for "The World's End," which dramatizes what happens when several childhood friends return to their hometown to find things are different. Like really different (minor plot spoilers ahead).

One of the more intriguing announcements of the year has been the potential team-up between megastar Johnny Depp and Edgar Wright, the director behind "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz" and "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World," on "The Night Stalker," a remake of the 1970s Darren McGavin-starring TV movie and subseuqent show about Carl Kolchak, a reporter investigating supernatural and science-fiction based cases. After all, Depp's output has been disappointing of late, but if anyone can reinvigorate the actor, it's Wright, in his first brush with a major A-list star.

It's been a year-and-a-half since "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" hit theaters, and director Edgar Wright has continued to remain mum on what might be next. He's been busy, for certain, with Marvel movie "Ant Man," and original scripts for "Baby Driver" and "Shaun of the Dead"/"Hot Fuzz" follow up "The World's End" all percolating, but with little firm news on any as they continued to be developed. Well, it's unlikely to be his next film, but it's just been revealed that Wright's got another project, and it's with the biggest movie star on the planet.
