Six months on from the final 'Harry Potter' film, the young stars of the franchise, who gave half of their lives to date to Hogwarts, are starting to break out on their own. Daniel Radcliffe has just come off a lengthy Broadway run, is starring in the imminent "The Woman in Black," and even impressed as the host on "Saturday Night Live" last weekend, even if he was somewhat undermined by Lana Del Ray discovering on live television that she didn't know what to do with her arms when she sings. Tom Felton added another snivelling villain to his resume in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." And Rupert Grint is doing whatever Rupert Grint does (as it turns out, a Norwegian war movie. Thanks, internets!).

In a world where studio movies often get release dates before they have a script, it's relatively easy to know what films to look forward to in the coming year. The indie world is a little trickier; films can often fly under the radar until they arrive on the festival circuit, without the wall-to-wall coverage of the tentpoles (although we do our best). But we're about ten days away from the Sundance Film Festival kicking off, and the indie line-up for 2012 will start to crystallize a little more.

It's hard to believe, but after a decade of conquering our multiplexes and turning everybody including your Mom into an expert on the series, the "Harry Potter" franchise is over (until they figure out a way to reboot it). And thus, the young cast, who are now all grown up, will need to venture for the first time into the industry without the comfort of a franchise to fall back on. For Emma Watson, the actress has boldly taken steps into her post-'Potter' career, cutting her hair short, taking a supporting role in "My Week With Marilyn" and taking her first non-tentpole lead in "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower."

Johnny Simmons seems poised for big things. He's already co-starred with Carey Mulligan in "The Greatest," worked with Robert Redford in "The Conspirator" and notched some geek cred with Edgar Wright's "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" and now the actor has lined up roles in couple more films.

With the "Twilight" series' end set to leave a massive hole in Summit Entertainment's slate and bottome line, the studio has been scouring the globe for adaptations in an attempt to retain the loyal young adult/teenage market it has garnered. One particular upcoming adaptation though -- which the studio picked up earlier this year -- looks to be bringing in all the right talent to attract that very market. Author Stephen Chbosky's adaptation of his own novel, "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower," has 'Harry Potter' star Emma Watson and 'Percy Jackson' star Logan Lerman in the lead roles with Mae Whitman ("Arrested Development") also on board.

Summit knows the tween market better than anybody else these days and with their mad money franchise "Twilight" drawing to a close, they're trying to find other ways to lure that all-important dollar from young moviegoers. They picked up the adaptation of "The Perks of Being a Wallfower" during Sundance earlier this year, and now it's gearing up to shoot and has added another cast member to Emma Watson and Logan Lerman who were first attached last spring.

Plus Sundance Flicks 'Silent House,' 'Bengali Detective' & 'Circumstance' Find HomesWith Sundance on, it's sales time for studios and distributors, as everyone in town competes to pick up the next would-be indie phenomenon. In what's been a more lively market for acquisitions than in recent years (albeit with few "Happy, Texas"--style big money sales), pictures such as "Like Crazy," "Homework," "Marcie Martha May Marlene" and "The Ledge" have all found homes, along with documentaries "Life in a Day" and "Page One."
