Dawn of the Planet Of the Apes
Well, it looks like we have our second repeat of the #1 position of this year. Before now, Michael Bay’s “Transformers: Age Of Extinction” was the only film of 2014 to stay at the #1 box office position for two weeks in a row. But now Matt Reeves’ “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” has achieved the same distinction. Falling only 50% (a great hold for a tentpole), the film was still able to gross $36 million in its second week of release to retain the box-office top spot. The movie is now at $138 million domestically, and reaching $200 million at home seems like a foregone conclusion. Pundits are already hypothesizing that the film will hit around over $600 million worldwide, which is a strong sign for the life of this franchise. But the box-office is still ailing domestically overall, down some 45% from 2013.

The Purge: Anarchy
It doesn't take a thinking person more than ten seconds to poke holes in the premise of “The Purge." It also doesn't take one to see the seductive hook of the material: Americans acting upon some sort of birthright to behave like animals, to let loose the chains of propriety and savagely end each other. “The Purge: Anarchy” takes place in 2023, and the surprise isn't that the American dream has become, “Fend for yourself, leave others behind.” No, the surprise is in why this sentiment necessitates the film taking place nine years in the future.

The Purge: Anarchy Nathan Whitehead
This weekend, moviegoers will return for more madness with "The Purge: Anarchy," the sequel to last summer's horror hit "The Purge." The violent and extreme future world of the film, where crime reigns free for 24 hours once a year, is a bit different from other traditional horror films, in that it isn't the supernatural that invokes fear, but humanity's darkest desires. And helping to convey that tone is composer Nathan Whitehead, who has scored both films in the franchise.

The Purge: Anarchy
If shit goes down, we want Frank Grillo on our side. And so when he says, "Keep moving, and stay quiet," you better listen or you might get killed. Even worse, the person who murders you won't get charged for it. At least that's the way it'll roll in "The Purge: Anarchy" and a new trailer has arrived for the quick sequel to last summer's horror hit.

The Purge: Anarchy The Purge 2
Oh hey, remember "The Purge"? It's that cheapie horror/thriller thing from last summer that opened at number one, and then disappeared from the top ten three weeks later. Remember how badly you wanted a sequel, featuring none of the original stars, but made by the same director? Good news, it's here.

One of the surprise hits of the year was this summer’s cheap Ethan Hawke-starring horror movie “The Purge,” and with the $3 million-budgeted film making nearly $90 million worldwide, you better believe Universal wants a re-up.

No sooner have you got the last fake blood stains out of your best shirt and put away the Peter Cushing DVDs until next Halloween than a whole raft of horror news appears, like a grasping undead hand from the frozen earth. And undead is right, because some of this news concerns resurrections and reanimations, or as they're more commonly known in Hollywood, “sequels”.
