In case you missed the news, Ben Stiller is directing and starring in the remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye-vehicle "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty," the somewhat liberal adaptation of the masterful James Thurber short story. The project will somehow also involve Sean Penn so it's fairly safe to assume that this won't be your ordinary do-over, no surprises that the first image is a little bit of a headscratcher.

'X-Men: First Class' & 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' Sequels Set For Summer 2014; 'Independence Day 3D' Hits July 3, 2013

Ironically, some of us were just having this conversation this morning. Would 20th Century Fox rush its "X-Men: First Class" sequel into production like they did in 2010 for its 2011 release (there was about an eight-month window to shoot and edit the picture and the film suffered because of it, but miraculously wasn't a total disaster)? The answer, thankfully, is no. Fox has set July 18, 2014 as the release date for their untitled sequel to "X-Men: First Class." Original director Matthew Vaughn will be on board once again with all of the original cast, including Micheal Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and many more (they all signed multi-picture deals after all). That should give them plenty of time to write a proper screenplay and not a mediocre one that the cast has to elevate (which was the case with the original).

Sean Penn doesn't do comedy. Wait, let's rephrase that...Sean Penn doesn't do comedy often. Of course, there's "Fast Times At Ridgemont High," and he's lent his incredible talents to comic vehicles only a handful of times in such films as "We're No Angels," "What Just Happened" and "Shanghai Surprise." But he's not above doing funny stuff. In fact, you may recall for that for the longest time he was attached/linked to an earlier incarnation of The Farrelly Brothers' "The Three Stooges" (and he likely dodged a bullet) and he's also guested on Zach Galifianakis' "Between Two Ferns" (watch below). But a role in a remake of a classic film with Ben Stiller? Yeah, we didn't see this one coming either.

Though already quite funny on his own, Ben Stiller has always been very smart about surrounding himself with other top-shelf players, not only taking the entire pressure of carrying a movie off his shoulders, but earning big comic rewards from the chemistry of collaboration. And that is certainly bearing out for "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty." Kristin Wiig, Adam Scott, Patton Oswalt and Shirley MacLaine are already all signed up, and now another very funny lady is adding her talents as well.

'Party Down' & 'Parks & Recreation' Star Adam Scott Joins 'The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty'

Adam Scott's career thus far pretty much defines the phrase "paying your dues." He's been working steadily pretty much since the start of his career logging time on both television and the big screen, but the last few years have finally seen his star deservedly rise. Of course, there was his stint on the criminally shortlived "Party Down" (which now is headed toward a feature film), apperances in Judd Apatow joints like "Knocked Up" and more notably "Step Brothers" and showing his range in everything from "Piranha 3D" to the indie "The Vicioius Kind." But 2012 seems to be the start of the next step in Scott's career. He's now fully fledged regular on "Parks & Recreation" (where he's tearing it a new one, see below) and has "Friends With Kids" arriving in the spring with Sundance hit "Bachlorette" arriving later in the year, and he's booked a big studio movie that will keep him busy during his hiatus from running Leslie Knope's political campaign.

After years in development, it looks like a contemporary take on the classic 1947 film "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty" starring Danny Kaye is finally going to move forward. Over the years directors like Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg and Gore Verbinski came and went with folks like Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson looking at the lead role. The project took a new direction over the spring when Ben Stiller came aboard in the starring role and it looks like he has such a clear vision for the project, he's just gonna make the damn thing himself.
