Jai Courtney, Kyle Reese, Terminator Genesis
The long national nightmare is finally over. Sort of. After other people like Nicholas Hoult and Garrett Hedlund passed on the part, Jai Courtney has landed the role of Kyle Reese in the "Terminator" reboot aka "Terminator 5" aka "Terminator: Genesis." Hooray. He'll join the returning Ah-nuld, Jason Clarke and Emilia Clarke in the Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones," "Thor: The Dark World") directed movie, about which details are being kept under wraps for now.

A few bits and pieces of news are lying about from the tentpole/genre world this evening, so let’s get to them. The first is some potential trouble with the upcoming “Terminator: Genesis” film, a reboot of the “Terminator” franchise set to star Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor and potentially Jai Courtney among other candidates for the role of Kyle Reese. One of the major financiers on the project was Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures, but Ellison’s company has dropped out as producer leaving her brother David's Skydance shingle and Paramount to foot the bill.

All hail and bow down to Daenerys Targaryen. While Brie Larson and "The Wolf Of Wall Street" sexpot Margot Robbie were among the actresses vying for the coveted role of Sarah Connor in the new "Terminator" reboot, "Terminator: Genesis," it is "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke who has officially landed the gig.

We might still be waiting to hear about the new Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke is said to be the front-runner, with Brie Larson still in contention too), but "Terminator 5" has found her on-screen son. While Tom Hardy was said to be the target for the role of John Connor (played by Edward Furlong, Nick Stahl and Christian Bale in the previous films), Skydance and Annapurna Pictures' reboot, "Terminator: Genesis," it's the actor's co-star in "Lawless," and the upcoming "Child 44," Jason Clarke who's won out, according to Deadline.

Even though America said, "No thanks, we'd rather not watch the 'Sarah Connor Chronicles,' " and even though as a franchise, "The Terminator" films stopped being worth watching in 1991, Megan Ellison and Hollywood are convinced that you really want more. So, they've reupped Arnold Schwarznegger to once again lumber around against the laws of physics and everything we know about the human body for a reboot coming in 2015 that will kick off a new trilogy. But it seems that's not all ...

It looks like there's another place to keep your eye on when it comes to developing news about big movies. The dudes at Schmoes Know have been on a tear this week, with a handful of their scoops getting confirmed by the trades and tonight is no different. Just a couple of days after they first reported it, THR confirms that "Terminator 5" is looking for Sarah Connor, and adds that the hunt is on for John Connor as well.

Alan Taylor has officially claimed the iron throne. The "Game of Thrones" director, whose big-budget Marvel project "Thor: The Dark World" opens this fall (the footage we saw at D23 was officially "quite good"), has been named the director of the next "Terminator" film from Annapurna Pictures and Paramount. The next entry in the time traveling cyborgs franchise is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2015, along with every other huge movie ever.

It's one thing when you reboot, say Batman, Superman, Star Trek, etc., films that have a rich mythology to draw from whether it's comics, TV, previous movies, etc. But it's another when you're rebooting a film whose only antecedent is a pre-existing movie. Does that make the upcoming "Terminator" film more of a remake than a reboot? It's hard to say, but Paramount announced today the basic details of its Skydance/Annapurna Pictures "Terminator" movie. Once known as "Terminator 5" colloquially, Paramount revealed in a press release that the new "Terminator" film will start over in reboot form and relaunch a new trilogy.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is determined to become a big screen star again, even though audiences don't seem to care about him in non-"Expendables" movies. Did you go see "The Last Stand" earlier this year? Do you even give a shit about his upcoming movie "Escape Plan" with his buddy Sylvester Stallone? Yeah, thought so and you'll probably care just as much about this.

How fast things can change. It was only last fall when Arnold Schwarzenegger was playing it cool and somewhat dismissive regarding his future in "The Terminator" franchise, saying: "I think (producer) Megan Ellison owns the rights to 'Terminator 16,' or whatever it is. They have been trying to put a script together but I've not seen it, so I've no idea. There's nothing on the drawing board at this point. Nothing on the plan." Well, less than a year later, he's feeling much more optimistic about things.
