Divergent
In the post-"Twilight" era, the folks behind various up-and-coming contenders for the YA crown have often had to field questions that inevitably draw comparisons to the vampire/werewolf/human love story that kicked off a phenomenon. And for the most part, those queries lead to answers focused on underscoring the differences, and how one world-in-the-balance-movie-with-teens differs from another world-in-the-balance-movie-with-teens. But Shailene Woodley has made it pretty unequivocal that "Divergent" might be better for your overall mental health than anything Bella, Edward and Jacob served up.

The Fifth Estate Bill Condon
It's rare that a movie inspired by true events is released while those events are still happening. But such is the case with "The Fifth Estate," a movie that dramatizes the firestorm of controversy that engulfs Julian Assange, the eccentric founder of the WikiLeaks website that made national headlines when they distributed thousands of previously classified documents about America's ongoing wars in the Middle East. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Assange as part freedom fighter, part hustler, part egomaniac, accompanied by lively direction from "Gods & Monsters" filmmaker Bill Condon. We spoke with the director about visualizing Assange's headspace, a potential return to horror, and his upcoming Sherlock Holmes movie.

So who earned the distinction in 2011 of the best at being the worst? Adam Sandler.

It’s not a surprise to see two of the year’s mildest weekends following each other. It is, however, a bit of a departure to see them at the beginning of December. The top twenty films at the box office brought a cumulative $73.2 million, the worst weekend of 2011. That's right, even worse than last weekend which had no new wide releases. You can keep filling up the theaters with crap Hollywood, just don't expect anyone to go.

It's Thankgiving, which means people spend time and money to go see their loved ones, only to get away from them as fast as possible. And always the first to escape from dull holiday festivities, it looks like teens (and Moms who should know better) kept flocking to see Edward and Bella fang bang as "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1" took the top spot in week number two, taking in $62.3 million over the five day long weekend. However, the franchise is becoming increasingly front-loaded with its biggest second week drop over, hovering somewhere around 76%. Even so, the film should have at least one more solid week in the bank as next weekend is a bizarrely barren with no major release scheduled. However, it will likely be leap-frogged by this weekend's number two movie "The Muppets."

Summit was either being coy or having a bit more faith in humanity than everyone else by projecting "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One" to open lower than "New Moon." No such luck, humankind -- the lethal siren song that is Stephenie Meyer's ignorance scored again, with "Breaking Dawn" grabbing $72 million on Friday, beginning an opening weekend that, after final estimates, could even surpass the series' best.
