Well, even though it turned out to be a gigantic fake that kind of pissed off Cannes Film Festival head Thierry Fremaux, if anything, that lineup got people talking again and new reports are surfacing about what might be appearing on the Croisette.

Earlier today we revealed and essentially confirmed what was quietly in the cards for a few weeks now: John Hillcoat's Prohibition crime flick "The Wettest County" starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain and many more is changing its name to "Lawless."

Toldja? Okay, maybe not quite, but we read the tea leaves on this just a couple of weeks ago, and now it's pretty much official. John Hillcoat's "The Wettest County" will now be titled "Lawless." Sorry Terrence Malick!

How to make god laugh? Make a plan, goes the old adage. Often times a plan is put in place, but then one piece falls out of the puzzle and you have chaos. To wit: yesterday, a user on our site posted a comment that said The Weinstein Company’s prohibition drama the “Wettest County” -- directed by John Hillcoat and starring a stellar cast that includes Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman and Mia Wasikowska -- had changed its title to “Lawless.” And as we know, the author of the book recently revealed on Twitter that the title was indeed changing.

As you might have noticed, the 2011/2012 awards season is finally over: the Oscars were on Sunday night, "The Artist" was the big winner, Meryl Streep finally got her third statuette, and "Hugo" basically won everything else. And so we get to put all this talk of what might get nominated, what might win, and who will definitely win, to bed for a year.

There are certainly some pretty horrible film titles that get churned out on a regular basis, and while they probably mean little in the grand scheme of things, naming a movie is still something Hollywood takes very seriously. On that note, it looks like a trio of highly anticipated films have had their titles put under the microscope recently, with two now set for changes and one gaining its first name.

If you aren't familiar with the name Dane DeHaan, by the end of 2012, you will be. The rising actor has three buzzy worthy projects on his slate this year: this weekend's found footage teen superhero pic "Chronicle" (go see it); John Hillcoat's highly anticipated "The Wettest County" and the Derek Cianfrance/Ryan Gosling bro-tacular reteam "The Place Beyond The Pines." Not a bad lineup at all. While there is still no word on a release date for the latter film, some kind of festival appearance seems likely (perhaps Cannes) and talking with Vulture, DeHaan revealed a few more details about the film.

Usually, it's only after Cannes announces their slate that we even begin thinking about the Lido, but it looks like one of our most anticipated films of the year is headed to Venice.

It seems John Hillcoat's curse with The Weinstein Company continues. As you might remember, this solid, though not particularly audience friendly "The Road" was hemmed and hawed over by the studio, before getting a weakly promoted limited release, that it open in just over 100 theaters on its first weekend and never reaching more than 400. Is the same fate about to happen to "The Wettest County"? God, we hope not, but the signs aren't not looking good.

It's kind of remarkable to think that, almost a year ago, Jessica Chastain was barely known. Sure, geekier film folks (like us) might have known us as her as the girl who Terrence Malick had cast in "The Tree of Life"...
