The last we heard about Terry Gilliam's 20-minute short film "The Wholly Family" was well over a year ago, when it took home Best Short Film at the European Film Awards. Not bad at all for a movie that got its start as a project sponsored by the pasta company Garofalo as part of an annual series of films about Naples. Well, Gilliam took that basic premise, ran with it, and now you can finally watch it.

While it has pretty much zero influence on the awards season stateside, the European Film Awards, which are essentially the Euro version of the Oscars, presented their winners tonight and it looks like Lars Von Trier's brief moment as a pariah is over.

It's hard to believe but summer is nearly over and not only that, the fall festival season kicks off in earnest in just a couple short weeks when the movie world will descend upon Venice. Every picture will be jostling for attention and in the lead up to the festivities posters for two festival players have arrived, along with a one sheet for a short film that has already started on the circuit.

While Terry Gilliam has struggled to get a new feature film mounted since 2009's "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," that's hardly stopped the ever busy director. Last year he directed a webcast for Arcade Fire, and this year he launched his excellent stage show of "The Damnation Of Faust" and sandwiched in between, he shot the short film "The Wholly Family."

Before he gets to his stint at the English National Opera this spring, directing "The Damnation Of Faust," helmer Terry Gilliam will get his latest short film venture, "The Wholly Family," in the can. First announced last year, the film stars Cristiana Capotondi, Douglas Dean, Nicolas Connolly and Sergio Solli and is being shot on location in Italy, and not without good reason. The film is being sponsored by pasta company Garofalo as part of an annual series of films about Naples, and while details of what it's about have been kept under wraps, the project does have an original script by Gilliam and is not based off the Eve Merriam poem of the same name.

While he spent most of the year struggling to mount his cursed project "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote," Terry Gilliam certainly hasn't been sitting idle, rocking a webcast for Arcade Fire in August, directing an energy drink mini-movie thing “The Legend Of Hallowdega,” and he’s currently gearing up for a production of Berlioz’s “The Damnation of Faust” at the English National Opera in London. But it looks like he's going to squeeze in one more film project before he focuses on the stage.
