Well, get out the pencil and eraser, because some dates are changing, and the biggest one of them all means you'll have to wait even longer for the finale of Peter Jackson's return to Middle Earth.

A few bits and bobs of casting, so let's just dive right in....first up, the always excellent Shea Whigam ("Take Shelter," "Silver Linings Playbook") has taken a role in his "Boardwalk Empire" executive producer Martin Scorsese's new film "The Wolf Of Wall Street." Based on the memoir of the same name, and adapted by Terence Winter, the film will tell the true story of Jordan Belfort, a wheeling and dealing New York stockbroker who sees his career and personal life fall into shambles thanks to sex, drugs and alcohol.

Years ago, this writer was shown "Wolves of Wall Street," a werewolf movie where no one turned into a werewolf, and there was a scene where one werewolf, still in human form, peed on another man's leg to show dominance and mark his territory. While there's probably no correlation between director Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Wolves of Wall Street" outside of a similar name, Leonardo DiCaprio is finally back in his marked territory of working with Scorsese and set photos of the production have already arrived online.

With a star-studded cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey, and Jonah Hill along with source material delving into Wall Street greed and betrayal, Martin Scorsese's latest film, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” seems to be his return to recognizable territory of horrible deeds done by extravagant individuals. However, as glimpsed from a recent peek at the script written by Terence Winter (“Boardwalk Empire”), those familiar elements do feature some intriguing twists to the formula that Scorsese has made classic, in addition to news of another veteran actor who may be lending solely his voice talents to the project. Minor spoilers below.

Killing it. That's all we can say about Matthew McConaughey, who we hope gives his agent a helluva Christmas present this year, because the actor has been lining up one great project after another without stopping for a moment. After "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" in 2009, Mac took a couple years away from the multiplex only to return with this run of the films: the sleeper hit "The Lincoln Lawyer," Richard Linklater's best film in years "Bernie," William Friedkin's knockout "Killer Joe," Lee Daniels'...interesting..."The Paperboy," Jeff Nichols' fairy tale "Mud," and Steven Soderbergh's stripper flick "Magic Mike" (with Oscar talk already building up around his performance in that one). So what does Mac do next? How about working with Martin Scorsese.

With the wondrous “Hugo” behind him now, director Martin Scorsese is looking to head back to chronicling the sort of seedier pastimes that helped make his name, with the upcoming “The Wolf Of Wall Street” now in the works. Based on a true story, the film follows a New York stockbroker who goes on a downward spiral of sex and drugs, and refuses to take part in a large securities fraud case. Scorsese has already lined up top talent like frequent collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Jean Dujardin (“The Artist”), Jon Bernthal (“The Walking Dead”) and Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights”), and the film continues to bring out names the way only a new Scorsese project can.

Before directing the blockbuster “Iron Man” films Jon Favreau was primarily known to the public-at-large as an actor with stints in the hugely popular sitcom “Friends” as well collaborations with his buddy Vince Vaughn. And while he’s set to start prepping the big screen adaptation of the hit musical “Jersey Boys,” the “Swingers” star/writer has cleared enough time in his schedule to make an appearance in Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf Of Wall Street.”

Martin Scorsese Abandons Celluloid In Favor Of Digital For 'Wolf Of Wall Street,' But It Won't Shoot In 3D

The egress from celluloid to digital is becoming a mass exodus in Hollywood. Theaters that still project film are becoming an endangered species, with film houses like the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles going as far as to launch their own "Save 35MM" campaign and petition in order to keep screening movies from film prints (they've won their battle for now). And right in step with theaters moving towards the inevitable future are the filmmakers themselves.
