With Marvel's "The Avengers" making a billion or so dollars, it seems every studio is now ramping up anything in their catalog that even smells like a team up movie. Hell, Marvel themselves is bringing the group action next summer with "Guardians Of The Galaxy," and "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise just got expanded to four films and currently features about twenty new characters, Warner Bros. teases "Justice League" eternally, Fox is gearing up "Fantastic Four," and we think the credit scroll for "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" might be longer than the actual movie...need we say more? But what if one movie could unite them all? Well, Hugh Jackman has an idea that will give a nation of super-nerds wet dreams tonight.

The Wolverine Logan Viper
Well, the summer season of the superhero movies is winding down. "The Wolverine" gets its fangs out in a couple of weeks, the kids of "Kick-Ass 2" do their thing next month and then we'll have a reprieve until "Thor: The Dark World" later in the year. But these movies need promoting, and Fox is trying to ensure their second stab at standalone a Wolverine movie is more successful than the first time out. But will it all work?

In the world of superheroes, there’s no greater quest than the one of redemption. While “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” might have been a financial success, it left a bit of a sour taste in the mouths of critics and fans alike. Even Hugh Jackman has spent much of press time for "The Wolverine" distancing it from 'Origins,' which he acknowledges let fanboys down. With a second shot at a solo-film coming up on this summer, will this new movie be able to win back the heart and minds of fans? If these latest clips are any indication, they are certainly going for broke.

The Wolverine
With lots of lofty influences being tossed around by director James Mangold for the upcoming "The Wolverine" -- including Wong Kar-Wai's "Chungking Express" and "Happy Together," Yasujiro Ozu's "Floating Weeds," "Chinatown," "The French Connection" -- we're pretty sure none of them had a fight sequence on top of a speeding bullet train in Japan. Unless there is some lost Ozu film that we haven't seen. Certainly, this first clip from the superhero movie doesn't exactly scream arthouse.

The Wolverine
Many audiences just won't give a damn or notice and that's completely valid, but for the more discerning, shall we say, modern movie obsessive, director James Mangold's credibility is really going to take a hit if "The Wolverine" isn't at least a sub-decent movie. The jury's still out of course, but all the recent trailers have been worrisome and iffy-looking; perhaps just a small notch above the execrable "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." The added scrutiny and expectations comes from Mangold himself and Hugh Jackman to a degree. Not only were the director and star actively campaigning for the film months before it was ready -- taking to YouTube to answer questions about the film during production -- they were actively attempting to change the narrative of what came before. In short: don't worry about "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," we're starting over, doing something much darker, cooler and serious (when have we heard that one before?)

Pacific Rim Blue Jasmine Only God Forgives The Hunt
It’s hard to believe we’re halfway through the summer, but no worries because July has fireworks, hot dogs, and movies! June was a soft month with staid comedies like “The Internship” and divisive blockbusters such as “Man of Steel” and “World War Z.” But, the next thirty days or so should have more than enough for you whether your appetite is for explosions or more subtler fare with a bit more substance.

Wolverine Hugh Jackman
Now that we're past the "Man of Steel" and "Iron Man 3" frenzies, there's another familiar superhero who will be returning to the big screen later next month. Getting ready for the July 26th premiere of "The Wolverine," 20th Century Fox has released a stockpile of images for us all to peruse, including a new banner and poster combo and a bunch of stills.

Wolverine
With "Iron Man 3" closing in on $1.2 billion worldwide and "Man Of Steel" taking flight this weekend with dollar signs in its eyes, can "The Wolverine" be the same super-sized hit? Gauging anticipation is a fool's errand, but it's probably safe to say excitement is trailing behind those other two movies. But then again, 20th Century Fox really knows how to turn on the marketing juice so prepare for much more over the next six weeks.

Wolverine
Is Hugh Jackman growing tired of the mutton chops and adamantium claws? Since 2000's "X-Men," the actor has been the hirsute face of Wolverine across a three X-Men movies, and one terrible standalone film, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." And coming up, we'll be getting a double dose of the star as Logan in this summer's "The Wolverine" and next year's "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" (and let's not forget he popped up ever so briefly in "X-Men: First Class"). Essentially, Jackman has been playing the character for well over a decade now, and it seems he might be ready to pass the torch.

What superhero movie are you most excited for this summer? “The Wolverine”? No, I thought not. Between “Iron Man 3” and the forthcoming “Man of Steel”, along with a slew of non-super block-busters, the sixth X-Men movie and do-over of 2009's “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” has been struggling a little to make its way into our collective consciousness. But never fear: we are here to change that.
