It was bound to happen, and we're surprised it didn't happen sooner. But with "The Wolverine" now on hold thanks to the double whammy of Darren Aronofsky bailing on the film and the ongoing aftereffects of the devastating earthquake in Japan where the film was set to shoot, Universal are hoping they can take advantage of Hugh Jackman's downtime and get him to star in their developing Snow White movie.

Did Darren Aronofsky Bail On The Film Due To Lack Of Creative Control? The wind got knocked out of the sails of the comic community in a big way late last week as it was announced that Darren Aronofsky -- seen as the savior for the on-the-ropes spinoff franchise for Wolverine -- had left the project, which was gearing up to start shooting this spring/early summer. In a joint statement with 20th Century Fox, the director cited the lengthy shoot in Japan as the reason he was bowing out with Deadline initially hinting that custody issues with Rachel Weisz over their son played a role in his exit. However, a different tune is emerging.

Wow, David Slade must be pissed. After losing out on "The Wolverine" to Darren Aronofsky and just recently signing on to direct the "Daredevil" reboot, some pretty shocking news has now arrived.

Likens It To An Old-Girlfriend Coming Back And Stepping DownYou'll recall a few weeks before Darren Aronofsky took the gig for "The Wolverine," then colloquially known as "Wolverine 2," several high-profile directors were in contention for the job -- or at least in discussions -- and one of those filmmaker was "Twilight: Eclipse" and "30 Days Of Night" director David Slade (other names included Robert Schwentke and allegedly Matt Reeves and Tony Scott, to name a few).

So that's why he did it. While we're slowly getting more and more used to (and excited by) the idea of Darren Aronofsky helming the comic book movie "The Wolverine," we didn't really see what he was getting out of it other than an opportunity to play in the studio tentpole sandbox for the first time in his career. But now, things a bit a more sense.

Aronofsky's Regular Cinematographer Matthew Libatique Will Lens FilmA few new details on the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" sequel have emerged. Yes, we're still wrapping our heads (in disbelief) around the fact that Darren Aronofsky ("The Fountain," "The Wrestler") is going to be directing this thing, but we suppose that since he dabbled and flirted with adaptations of "Batman: Year One," "Watchmen" and "RoboCop," he would have eventually taken on a big tentpole like this one.
