The World's End' set
Get ready folks, "The World's End" is near. Before you grab for your pitchfork and rosary, we're not talking about the actual end of the world, but the final film of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy. In "Shaun of the Dead," they tackled zombies by way of slacker comedy. In "Hot Fuzz," they took on the buddy cop genre with a hint of countryside cult conspiracy. This time around in "The World's End," it looks like they've reworked the nostalgic reunion movie to include a sloppy pub crawl, some space invaders and a rocking soundtrack. It's one of the most highly anticipated films of the summer, even in a crowd of apocalypse movies. Across the pond, reviews have begun to ebb out in anticipation of its U.K. premiere on July 19th and thankfully, they're mostly positive, one of our favorites being from The Times -- "While achieving Olympic levels of stupidity, The World's End is a movie which leaves you grinning from ear to ear, or possibly from beer to beer." Not-so-luckily, we still have over a month until the film hits stateside.

We were pleasantly surprised when they dropped the zombie riff "Shaun Of The Dead," we were more than pleased to see them keep up the quality and laughs in the buddy cop romp "Hot Fuzz," but could Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost do it again? Could they say goodbye to the Cornetto trilogy and still keep the freshness, creativity, humor and inventiveness alive? Well, by most early accounts, the answer seems to be yes.

The World's End
The world has been ending rather a lot recently at the multiplex and next week Guillermo Del Toro is going to smash up the planet once again with "Pacific Rim," but we'd reckon few of the movies will have the kind of beer fuelled mayhem that will be poured out of "The World's End." The latest from Edgar Wright is coming to put a helluva finale on the summer and a few more looks at the the movie have arrived.

The World's End
"After 'Hot Fuzz' we always thought it would be rude not to wrap the films up in a neat trilogy,” director Edgar Wright recently told Yahoo! Movies about "The World's End," the upcoming last film in his mooted Cornetto trilogy (a British ice cream that features in all three movies). “I think it’s a theme that haunts me and Simon [Pegg], the dubious dream of perpetual adolescence and the idea that someone is always younger than you. I think we finally finish this arc with this movie. The adolescence is over here.” So what's this film about then beside arrested development in man children? Five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind's only hope for survival. But as Wright noted, chasing adolescence is only top of mind for one of the five friends.

Get To Know Your 2013 Apocalypse Movies
Hollywood likes to second-guess itself and look over its shoulder. “Oh, you’re producing a film about a math wizard who falls in love and takes a trip around the world in a balloon?” [Turns head, whispers in teeth to assistant] “Where’s our version of this? Get a draft on my desk by next Thursday.” This year we’ll see two White House movies (“White House Down” and “Olympus Has Fallen”) going toe-to-toe and a number of superhero film face-offs. But with apocalypse movies, it’s almost something else entirely. It seems to have captured the creative zeitgeist, and/or everyone is just creatively bankrupt. In Hollywood, it’s always hard to tell.

The World's End
It seems that if you want some vision of the world coming an end, you have more than a few options at the movies this year; on Wednesday "This Is The End" comes to theaters, and numerous sci-fi blockbusters this summer ("Oblivion," "After Earth") have already tackled apocalyptic visions of Earth forever changed and humanity forced to leave. Some extra posters for a couple of the other flavors of big and scary end-times are here, continuing cinema's determination to make 2013 the year it all ended.

The World's End, Nick Frost
We've got Supermen and Jaegers and Wolverines still to come this summer, but it's fairly likely that we'd trade them all for a chance to see Edgar Wright's "The World's End" a touch earlier. We've been looking forward to the third installment of the so-called Cornetto trilogy since, well, probably the minute we walked out of "Hot Fuzz" back in 2007, and the film's now less than two months away.

This week brings the closing chapters of one of the rarest things in cinema -- a consistently strong trilogy -- in the shape of the latest installment of one of the most beloved series in recent memory. Not "The Hangover," but "Before Midnight," the closing (?) chapter to Richard Linklater's tale of romance. While it's bittersweet, we're also hopeful that one other perfect trilogy will be coming along before summer's out, in the shape of Edgar Wright & Simon Pegg's Cornetto trilogy, begun with "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz." A new trailer for the third installment "The World's End" is coming tomorrow, but just arriving before that is a new British quad poster, which highlights some of the supporting cast, including Rosamund Pike, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan. Check it out above.
