Well, you can't have the best of the year without the worst, and while Cahiers Du Cinema got the ball rolling on the top films of the year, Time Magazine has dropped their rundown of the worst. And topping it all? The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer's "Cloud Atlas."

Weekend Box Office: 'The Vow' And 'Safe House' Tussling Again For First Place; 'Ghost Rider' Does Less Than Half Of Predecessor

Love is in the air, but "Safe House" ain't hearin' it. In weekend two, the film surpassed last week's champ, "The Vow," if only barely. While the film hasn’t done quite the same weekday business as the Tatum-McAdams romancer so far, it’s outperformed its modest programmer aspirations and should easily leapfrog $100 million. Amusingly enough, this would give Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds both four $100 million domestic earners on their resume. Sometimes the line separating a star and a journeyman can be very thin, though to Denzel’s credit, he’s never really been the type to command massive $200 million budgets. Though, yeah, he probably would have been a good “Green Lantern.” Now that that’s been brought up in conversation, let us ignore it forever. Apologies.

With the release of "This Means War" coming this weekend, director McG is prepared to try something just a bit different. He's been attached to "Puzzle Palace" since late last year, an action script penned by "Safe House" writer David Guggenheim. Development stalled while Summit merged with Lionsgate, but with everything starting to clear up, he's ready to make this thriller his very next film.

This weekend, Fox's ambitious blend of action, comedy and romance, "This Means War," rolls into theaters starring Chris Pine and Tom Hardy as warring CIA agents at each others' throats vying for the attentions of Reese Witherspoon. With the picture now finished and screenings beginning to roll out across the country, we got a chance to catch up with director McG and talk about the film. What intrigued us most was the end of 'War,' with the helmer telling Movieline that initially he thought about doing a "Clue"-style ending. The 1985 film had three different endings shot, and shipped to theaters, with audiences never knowing what they would get. While McG abandoned that idea, without spoiling anything, we'll say the version of "This Mean's War" that moviegoers see in theaters wasn't the only one under consideration.

YEAH! Are you ready for some Cage's Festival of Wigs (TM)??? A wig made of FIRE perhaps? That is right, people. Nicolas Cage is BACK as that motorcycle madman from hell (nope this is not "Drive Angry 2") as the GHOST RIDER in "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance." And that's it, no other movies to see this week. KIDDING, there's like some Oscar nominated documentaries and foreign films and shit. And Tom Hardy debasing himself in "This Means War" with Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. But really, it's all about the Cage this week. When is it not?

“The best product always wins,” declares Lauren (Reese Witherspoon) early on in McG’s "This Means War," brusquely establishing her approach to professional conduct – she’s a product tester in some candy-colored SoCal workplace – and romantic relationships alike. The sentiment also sets the bar much too high for the movie itself, as the action-comedy proceeds to deliver a sporadically amusing rivalry between two government agents for Lauren’s incredibly indecisive affections in between action sequences that reek of Fox’s notorious post-production meddling.

Picking a Valentine's Day movie is always a tricky thing: do you pander to marketing and go with something love-themed, or do you just pick something you both want to see? The correct answer is always "find somewhere playing 'Casablanca,' " but in lieu of that, the studios have lined up a wealth of options -- Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams in "The Vow" for the more romantically-minded, or Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in action mode in "Safe House," both of which open this Friday, just in time for Valentine's Day.

With a resume that boasts stuff like the forgettable “We Are Marshall” and the misguided “Terminator: Salvation,”  McG doesn't exactly make for an auteur worth following, however, he has continued to make a living producing sub-Michael Bay shlock and proven himself to be just as bulletproof (critically, anyway) as Drew Barrymore in “Charlie’s Angels.”
