Sequels and remakes, that's the name of the game these days, so let's dive into the latest looks at two movies that fit into both categories.

A month on from its first trailer, we're still not quite sure about Marvel's Phase Two offering, “Thor: The Dark World.” Alongside “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” as a sequel that seems more logical than necessary, the new installment from “Game of Thrones” helmer Alan Taylor looks enjoyable enough. But with the film's most recent turn of events parting ways with one of its most notable collaborators, consider us just a tiny bit disappointed moving forward.

Like a leaky nerd faucet, Marvel keeps the information flowing, albeit in servings that would strain to be called child's size. And yet, here we are, because the Marvel-verse is one of the most interesting gambles in recent memory at the movies that is only growing bigger and more successful with each passing year (leading up to a whopper of a 2015 for Disney). But before we get ahead of ourselves and talk Phase Three, there is still lots to come with Phase Two, starting with "Iron Man 3," which opens tomorrow, and EW sat down with Kevin Feige and grilled him on all things Marvel.

Thor 2, Thor: The Dark World
Starting with a preview in the Phase One boxset, Marvel has been efficiently building up to the first trailer for "Thor: The Dark World" with a poster and fresh stills in the last few days. And now it's officially here (after partially leaking late last night), and yes, it's bringing the epic.

With the "Iron Man 3" campaign pretty much wrapped as the sequel opens this week internationally, Marvel is now putting their marketing efforts into "Thor: The Dark World," which isn't due in theaters for another seven months. But hey, there's no time like the present.

You can bet that with "Iron Man 3" opening in just a couple of weeks, Marvel isn't going to miss a hot second to promote their other superhero movie this year, "Thor: The Dark World." So perhaps in advance of the eventual teaser trailer or teaser for the teaser trailer, the studio has dropped the first poster, and it's....well, you're not going to mistake this movie for anything else.

Chris O’Dowd is having a moment. He first turned heads in the British sitcom “The IT Crowd,” and since his turn as Kristen Wiig’s love interest in the breakout hit “Bridesmaids” he’s racked up roles in two more Judd Apatow projects: Lena Dunham’s HBO series “Girls” and in Apatow’s own directorial effort “This Is 40.” And it looks the comedy world isn’t enough for O’Dowd as he’s revealed that he has a role in a major blockbuster this year.

Well, duh. The rumor itself was built on shaky ground, and given the actor's choosiness and selectiveness over roles and directors he'll take on, it's probably no shock that Viggo Mortensen won't be in "Thor: The Dark World." Tenuous-to-begin with reports (or leaps of logic) had linked him to the role of Dr. Strange, and while the character itself isn't ruled out, Mortensen won't playing along in the sequel, and it's not like Marvel were even aware the dude was still taking scripts.

Earlier this summer, we at The Playlist launched our Playlist podcast series. In our second episode, we conversed about Warner Bros.' plans for the Justice League, and of course, discussed the second phase of the Marvel cinematic universe. During our conversation we dropped some fun Marvel rumors that had come across our desk this summer (Marvel never verifies, so it tends to be speculative at best) and one of the more fascinating grapevine dispatches we heard was that Dr. Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel universe, would be a big part of "Thor: The Dark World" (then simply called "Thor 2").
