It's coming. One of the biggest movies of all time is getting ready to pulverize all over again as James Cameron's "Titanic" drops anchor this spring, on it's slightly revised release date of April 6th and this time, it's in 3D. Yeah, it's the same movie you know and love (*spoiler* the boat still sinks), but it's been beefed up for contemporary audiences who apparently need stuff to fly at their face to get their money's worth. We would say it's going to be an immersive experience, but that just sounds crass.

The second highest grossing movie of all time, winner of 11 Academy Awards and the movie that launched the careers of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, this is no denying that James Cameron's "Titanic" was as big as the iceberg that sunk the fabled ship. And now, on the 15th anniversay of the movie's release and the 100th anniversary of the ship's maiden (and final) voyage, "Titanic" is wading back into theaters, this time in 3D.

On Friday morning, writer-director James Cameron and producer Jon Landau hosted a screening of footage from the upcoming 3D rerelease of “Titanic,” Cameron’s 1997 Academy Award winner and box office record-setter. After screening 18 minutes or so of the film, which was painstakingly converted into 3D over a 60-week period, Cameron and Landau fielded questions from the audience and discussed the expansion of 3D into both the future and the past of the moviemaking industry.

Film Will Also Get 2D Re-releaseFox has long been the least popular studio in the geek world; despite being the home of "Star Wars," "Avatar" and the "X-Men" series, its bosses, and in particular head honcho Tom Rothman, have been seen as interference-happy, thanks to the botched likes of "Elektra," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "The Day The Earth Stood Still." But having uncharacteristically put their faith in filmmaker-led takes on big franchises twice this summer, with "X-Men: First Class" and "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," and being rewarded by audiences and critics alike for their trouble, does this mark a turning point for the studio's standing?

After a dozen years as the top-grossing film of all time, a seemingly once-in-a-generation phenomenon, James Cameron's action-heavy period romance "Titanic" was finally unseated from its position as the biggest grossing film of all time by... James Cameron's action-heavy futuristic romance, "Avatar," which topped the earlier film's seemingly unbeatable $1,800,000,000 haul by nearly a billion dollars. But with "Avatar 2" not expected in theaters until 2015, the director has to find some way of keeping his coffers topped up (transplanting yourself into a Na'vi doesn't come cheap, you know), so he's going back to his number two film to give it the one thing it was missing before: a third dimension.
