If there's anything at all to gather from these new images from Terrence Malick's "To The Wonder," it's this: love is a bummer. And indeed, nothing really ends well for Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem in the film, but at least they look pretty damn good.

It might have been a far shorter wait than we're used from Terrence Malick -- less than two years have passed since the premiere of "The Tree Of Life" -- but given that it shot over three years ago, and premiered at Venice six months back, those who weren't lucky enough to see "To The Wonder" on the festival circuit in 2012 must be getting impatient to see the latest film from the reclusive auteur.

Well, if you're going to promote a movie about a relationship that falls apart, it's probably best to market the nice stuff that happens first to at least get people to buy a ticket. And with Terrence Malick's "To The Wonder" getting ready to open in the U.K. next month, yet another one sheet has arrived for the movie, showing our lead couple in happier times.

It's nice to see the Yeti that is Terrence Malick come out of hiding these last few years. Ever since "The Tree Of Life," Malick's not only been working at an uncharacteristically quick clip, he's actually been finishing films at a rapid pace. His latest, the romance drama "To The Wonder" is already in the can (here's a recent French trailer). Starring Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem (and several cameos, some of which never made the film), reviews from the Toronto International Film Festival and Venice were decidely divided -- some accusing the film to be a culmination of Malick's worst tendencies, others describing it as a work of beauty.

It's kind of a bummer to see so many dismissing Terrence Malick's upcoming "To the Wonder" with jokes about shots of wheat fields and sighs over the trademark camerawork he employs with Emmanuel Lubezski. But it speaks to the film itself, which is free from cynicism, and a deeply earnest and soulful look at love and loss, which some may have let their guard down to embrace.

If you weren't one of those who saw the film in Venice or Toronto this year, you've likely seen very little of Terrence Malick's "To The Wonder," the director's uncharacteristically fast-in-arriving follow-up to his wildly acclaimed "The Tree Of Life." Two images from the film have been released, but those who've been avoiding the reviews might not yet have much of an idea of what to expect.

The mercurial methods of Terrence Malick tend to affect his actors in various ways. Christopher Plummer vowed to never work with him again, Ben Affleck said the experience "was a wash" in terms of learning or gaining anything, while Christian Bale seems to love the whole process, starring in "The New World" and now leading Malick's next two pictures. Well, duh. A WWII story with a cast that includes Daniel Craig, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Matt Damon Hugh Bonneville, and Bob Balaban, George Clooney's "Monuments Men" (which he'll also take a role in) is now slated for a "Hey-pay-attention-to-me-awards-season" date of December 20, 2013.

While at one time Terrence Malick seemed to be an enigma we would know little about, his recent prolific jaunt that sees him working with nearly every actor in Hollywood suggests that for years to come, we're going to keep getting more and more anecdotes about the man and his films, even if he remains elusive to the press. Indeed, his approach to filmmaking, which often involves tossing out the script and shooting whatever the day or moment inspires, has been either freeing, baffling or anger-inducing depending on who you ask (Christopher Plummer is not a fan). And Richard Gere, who starred in the Malick's sophomore effort, "Days of Heaven," has not been shy about his own frustrations with the film.
