Director/writer Todd Phillips' filmmaking career has been fairly inconsistent so far, but the peaks and positive results have always been hilariously effective. "Road Trip" was unexpectedly funny and "Old School," a comedy touchstone of sorts, practically invented the fratty, bromantic, arrested development comedy of man children that’s become its own cottage industry genre (Example: while "Wedding Crashers" was not written by Phillips, that comedy classic owes much of its form to his college-set comedy). Then came the uneven "Starsky & Hutch" and the compromised "School For Scoundrels," which dulled Phillips' dirty politically-incorrect comedy edge.

At the end of the month, you'll be faced with making the decision of which bros who you want to hang out with -- Vin and the boys in "Fast & Furious 6" or the Wolf Pack in "The Hangover Part III"? It's gasoline vs.alcohol, Las Vegas vs. London (and other exotic locales), and Luke Evans vs. John Goodman in the bad guy department. We'll leave it to you to decide which way you're gonna go, but these forty plus new images from "The Hangover Part III" give a glimpse of what you might be missing.

With "The Hangover Part III" arriving next month, and now a massive, R-rated comedy franchise, it's easy to forget that way back in 2009, this movie was not expected to be a hit. Oh sure, Warner Bros. knew it would do well (it didn't cost them very much either) but they couldn't have predicted how well it was going to do when arguably the biggest name in the cast was Heather Graham. Guys like Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis had not taken off yet, but over $460 million dollars worldwide later, their lives changed instantly. But what if the casting had gone a different way?

This seems to be the week for filmmakers to make assessments on their past work. Yesterday, Michael Bay apologized for "Armageddon," revealing that the studio took the movie out of his hands and if he had his way, he would've completely reshot the final third. And today, Todd Phillips comes out swinging against folks who used "The Hangover Part 2" as a punching bag, criticizing the movie's lack of originality and carbon copying of the first film's template.

Hangover III
Phil, Alan and Stu. We partied with them in Las Vegas, got wasted with them in Thailand, and now it's all coming back home with "The Hangover Part III," a movie in which they want to burn the gambling mecca where they started their journey to the ground. The first trailer set up the pins -- will this one knock 'em down?

The plot of "The Hangover Part III" has been tightly under wraps since day one. All we've really known is that it wouldn't follow the blackout blueprint of the last two films. "It’s certainly not in the same template that you’ve seen for these movies," director Todd Philips said last year. "The third would be very much a finale and an ending. The most I could say about it...is that it is not following that template but very much a new idea." A vague plot synopsis released earlier this year strongly suggests a road trip scenario, but little else.

Even though "The Hangover III" is in the midst of production, Todd Phillips is already looking beyond the final chapter of the fratboy comedy franchise, and has been lining up various projects as potential directorial vehicles. Over the past year, his name has become attached to the stoner weapons dealer pic "Arms And The Dudes"; the drug tale "Mule" penned by the Duplass Brothers and just last month he took over "The Gambler" remake from Martin Scorsese. And now he's adding another to the development pile, and it's arguably the most intriguing of the lot.

While Warner Bros.' "The Hangover Part III" is already shooting and reunites the original cast of Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha along with Ken Jeong, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, Gillian Vigman, Sasha Barrese, Jamie Chung and badguy John Goodman, apparently one more last-minute addition has been made.

It appears director Todd Phillips is about to get serious for the first time after he's done with his upcoming comedy trilogy. In a surprise announcement, and what will be the first dramatic feature-length effort of his career, THR is reporting that Phillips is taking over "The Gambler" from Martin Scorsese and will make it his first post-"The Hangover Part III" project.
