With promises that he'll shoot on the fading 35mm film format, and employ a tasteful amount of CGI rather than bombarding our eyeballs with pixels, J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode 7" has one more trick up its sleeve: you'll be able to see it in IMAX.

There's still no title, and it seems even J.J. Abrams is a bit punchy about delivering the movie in time, but mark your calendars as Disney has gone ahead and slated "Star Wars: Episode 7" for a late 2015 release.

Reese Witherspoon
After a stint working on indie movies with Jeff Nichols' "Mud" opening earlier this year, Atom Egoyan's "The Devil's Knot" hitting the festival circuit, and Paul Thomas Anderson's "Inherent Vice" probably landing sometime next year, the actress is going back to making movies that will pay the bills. She's headed to Disney to make the fairy tale comedy, "Happily Ever After."

Aside from Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar," there is no other film arriving in 2014 with as much mystery behind it as Brad Bird's "Tomorrowland." Penned by Damon Lindelof, the project stars George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy and Thomas Robinson and has been given this official logline: "Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as Tomorrowland.” But that creates more questions than answers, and there have been no shortage of theories as to what the movie is really about.

Disney has finally revealed a little something about "Tomorrowland," their big budget, beyond top-secret sci-fi project being directed by Brad Bird (from a script by Bird and "Prometheus" lightning rod Damon Lindelof) and starring George Clooney and Hugh Laurie. While announcing the official start of production (up in Vancouver), the studio hinted at the film's plot, while keeping most of the movie's specifics still in some kind of lead-lined vault, accessible only by key members of the production and the guy who plays Gaston in the Magic Kingdom. The officially sanctioned synopsis also made us think back to the movie's big presence at this year's D23 Expo, where Lindelof and Bird were on hand to cryptically tease what the movie might have in store for us.

The more we hear about Disney's sci-fi "Tomorrowland," the more we’re intrigued. Related in some way to the Disney theme park attraction, the plot is still officially "unknown," though we’ve heard some fantastic things. The Brad Bird-directed film has already lined up an array of actors, including George Clooney and Hugh Laurie, or for doctor drama fans, Dr. Doug Ross ("E.R.") and Dr. Gregory House ("House, M.D."). And now, Judy Greer has joined the line-up, presumably as a bit of comic relief, but at this point, any speculation as to her specific role is being pulled out of thin air. This will mark Greer’s third film with Clooney; the others being "Three Kings" and "The Descendants."

You might not know this, because hardly anyone is talking about it, but Comic-Con is happening this week. All kidding aside, this is an exciting week in the geek community as major movie studios, comic book companies, and video game developers all converge on San Diego for a week of pure nerd bliss. It’s also around this time that we start to get a lot of announcements and surprises from the studios looking to generate fan buzz. Damon Lindelof
Nerds, start your hate-tweets: Damon Lindelof, one of the most celebrated and reviled writers in the geek universe, suggests in an interview with Grantland where he doesn't acknowledge or even try to explain the dozens of gaping plot holes and leaps in logic in "Star Trek Into Darkness" (which he co-wrote), that he will probably be involved in one of Disney's upcoming "Star Wars" projects (the crop that will begin with J.J. Abrams' 2015 film). In basements all across the country, angry blog posts are already being written. Lindelof also gave some more details about "Tomorrowland," his secretive Disney project with Brad Bird, which are pretty exciting for any fan of sci-fi.

Director Brad Bird, who started out in animation with the deeply brilliant 2D "Iron Giant" before moving to Pixar and helming "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille," and then transitioning to live action with the jaw-dropping "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol," is just now embarking on his 'M:I-4' follow-up, a mysterious sci-fi project for Disney entitled "Tomorrowland." Bird seems antsy to make more movies, though, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter (ostensibly about "Tomorrowland"), Bird divulged how close he is to doing another "Incredibles" and what it was like being offered "Star Wars: Episode VII."

Disney is working hard to keep the plot of next year’s “Tomorrowland” under wraps -- but their efforts have only been met with more fervent prying -- and two major rumors have already come out about the sci-fi flick starring George Clooney and Hugh Laurie. The first was about Walt Disney working with the government to reveal that UFOs exist. The second was about a genius middle-aged man, a pre-pubescent robot girl, and a real teenage girl teaming up to unravel the mystery of an alternative dimension called Tomorrowland.
