Damn, this is major fine casting. Edward Norton is in negotiations to play the villain in Tony Gilroy's "The Bourne Legacy" which is already set to star "The Hurt Locker" lead Jeremy Renner. Currently there are no further details on Norton's role, how it will play into Gilroy's continuation of the 'Bourne' saga, but we know that Matt Damon won't be returning and by all accounts this is a side-story that exists within the realm of the greater 'Bourne' universe.

Studio Eyes James McAvoy Or Shia LaBeouf But May Want Aussie Actor For 'Snow White & The Huntsman'Aussie actor Joel Edgerton is on the cusp of making a major mark in Hollywood. The 36-year-old actor has never been lacking for work. Acclaimed turns in "The Square" and "Animal Kingdom" put him firmly on the Hollywood radar and 2011 is already shaping up to be a helluva year as he's already set for the Tom Hardy MMA flick "Warrior" and the big budget "The Thing" prequel. He's also currently filming the indie flick "The Odd Life of Timothy Green." All that's left for the actor to solidify his place among the top leading men is a franchise, and it looks like he's got a couple to choose from.

There's no doubt that the Universal Bourne series spinoff "The Bourne Legacy" has been one of the biggest casting tickets in town. Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, Kellan Lutz, Joel Edgerton, Josh Hartnett, Paul Dano, Michael Pitt, Oscar Isaac, Michael Fassbender, Luke Evans, Alex Pettyfer and Benjamin Walker have all been tossed around as potential actors to take on the next chapter in the franchise, but it appears one name has risen to the top that hasn't been mentioned yet.

With "The Adjustment Bureau" hitting theaters next week, we sat down to talk to first-time director (and writer) George Nolfi just very recently. Nolfi, who wrote "The Sentinel" and the rather gonzo, "Ocean's Twelve," endeared himself to Universal executives by working on the script for the "Bourne Ultimatum" movie, but was also contracted to write a fourth film featuring Matt Damon's return as Jason Bourne, only for director Paul Greengrass to bail on the project entirely and the studio to eventually opt for "The Bourne Legacy" as the next adventure in that cinematic universe.

Let's not get it twisted. Everyone loves Matt Damon. He is one of the most beloved actors in the industry because he's a straight-shooter, super-approachable and one of the nicest people you will ever meet in the movie business. Recently a tasty little Damon/'Bourne' franchise news nugget started making the rounds. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine (via Get The Big Picture, not online yet apparently), Damon said, "I'd do ['Bourne'] again with Paul [Greengrass] (who directed Damon in the last two Bourne films, as well as 'Green Zone'.) Universal doesn't actually own the Bourne character - the estate does - so technically I could go to Warner Bros... and Universal could read about it online."

Tony Gilroy Went To See '127 Hours,' Doesn't Mean He Wants James Franco As Next Bourne

So with the Internet now spinning a really tenuous story about Tony Gilroy supposedly eyeing James Franco for the lead role in "The Bourne Legacy," we just want to temper things a moment and point out the one line in the NY Post report that everyone seems to be ignoring: "But a source close to Gilroy said, 'He was just there to see the movie.'"

Damon Say He's "Thrilled" Door Is Open For A Paul Greengrass-Led Return; Says 'Liberace' Still Aiming To Shoot In The Summer Of 2011 Despite Douglas' Battle With CancerNo sooner did Matt Damon say that "no one bothered" to call him regarding the Tony Gilroy-to-direct-"The Bourne Legacy"-announcement and all hell broke loose on the Internet. While Damon did sound partly miffed, those comments were soon expounded upon to be some sort of angry 'Bourne-gate' by overzealous writers (let's face it, as we said, Damon was aware this was happening and his newer comments essentially admit as much).

Ok, Matt Damon is not coming back for Universal's 4th edition of the Jason Bourne franchise; the Tony-Gilroy-penned and to-be-directed, "The Bourne Legacy." This we already know.
