Last night, advance screenings of Screen Gems' "Straw Dogs" around the country were preceded by a pleasant/nasty surprise from parent company Sony, in the form of an eight-minute preview of David Fincher's Feel-Bad Movie Of Christmas, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." While it was cut together like a trailer, and it may surface online, it was strictly for the hardcore fans, and, while un-spoilery, did indeed lean towards the R-rated end of the spectrum.

It might be one of the most anticipated movies of the year, but we're still relatively in the dark about David Fincher's version of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." There was that attention-grabbing poster of course, and a perfectly-edited teaser trailer, but there's still a lot to come for the R-rated studio-funded version of a mystery tale that's already proven a giant hit both in Stieg Larsson's original novels, and in the Swedish trilogy of films, which launched Noomi Rapace to international stardom.

Don't worry if you forgot about this entirely -- we kinda did -- but last year, before he became on Oscar winner, Trent Reznor struck a deal with HBO and BBC for a mini-series adaptation of Nine Inch Nail's 2007 dystopian concept album Year Zero. Not much has been heard about it since then, but for such a, high concept effort, it looks like they've tapped the right man to do the job.

Tagline For The Film Reportedly 'The Feel Bad Movie Of Christmas' Update: Pitchfork has confirmed that Trent Reznor and Karen O indeed cover Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" which is featured in the red band teaser for "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." If you see "The Hangover Part II" this weekend there's a chance you might catch it, but hey Sony, how about throwing it online already?

After some mini-drama in which Oscar winner Trent Reznor (we never get tired of writing that) confirmed that he was scoring and appearing in "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" and chastised the internet for ruining the surprise early by that info leaking, the Nine Inch Nails frontman has now bowed out of the project. Or to hear him to tell it, he was never really involved in the first place. Something like that.

It's hard to keep anything a surprise these days, especially when it comes to movies with spies and leaks coming from everywhere up the Hollywood food chain. "The Muppets" and "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" recently had their cameos given away (though the leak of the latter was less upfront than the rampant casting bits that went out for the former) and it turns out one more was also spoiled.

We'll be honest, we're still getting over Trent Reznor being an Oscar-winning composer -- he deserved it, we just never figured the Academy would be that progressive -- but it looks like the Nine Inch Nails frontman has found himself a very lucrative and prestigious gig scoring movies and what the hell, why not start taking roles in the them too?

Alright, the 83rd Annual Academy Award nominations are in. Now it's time to analyze, bitch and moan, celebrate, postulate and what have you, depending on your subjective opinion of the way the noms turned out (it's honestly amusing watching the Oscar "expert" bloggers quiver in their boots about the diminishing shine on "The Social Network" even though it still has a great shot at Best Picture; worlds have been accordingly rocked.).

"The King's Speech" sits on the throne this morning, earning 12 Oscar nominations and looking like the film to beat at the 83rd Academy Awards, while "True Grit" follows with 10 nods and "The Social Network" with 8. Not much in the way of shockers this year, but some pleasant surprises in the mix as well as few snubs.
