Breathe In, Guy Pearce
Guy Pearce isn't a movie star, and he's totally fine with that. The Australian actor has been a familiar face on screen for getting on twenty years, and has occasionally brushed against potential A-list-dom, but after getting burnt with things like "The Time Machine," has pretty much settled into doing whatever the hell he wants, whether it's solid character actor roles like this week's "The Rover," or fun B-movie fare like "Lockout."

Norman Reedus,Walking Dead
John Hillcoat always nabs great casts. “Lawless” had Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, I’m Not Famous Anymore, and many others. And now Deadline reports that “Walking Dead” dirtbag Norman Reedus has joined the cast of his latest, the contemporary cop thriller “Triple Nine.” This spectacular cast already includes Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Aaron Paul, Teresa Palmer, Kate Winslet and Gal Gadot. Damyo. Nick Cave will likely write the score again.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
As if the cast of John Hillcoat's "Triple Nine" wasn't awesome enough with Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, Michael Pena, Teresa Palmer and Gal Gadot already on board, well it just got even better.

True Detective
So, quick question: where has Woody Harrelson been through the media blitz that surrounded HBO's phenomenal "True Detective"? While Matthew McConaughey got the lion's share of the praise and media attention, let's pour one out for Woody Harrelson who was just as good in a far less showy role, with a character whose changes are much more subtle. Well, John Hillcoat was certainly paying attention to his work.

Labor Day
While John Hillcoat hasn't had a problem attracting names to his upcoming cop thriller "Triple Nine," there's been a problem with them sticking. Shia LaBeouf, Charlie Hunnam, Michael B. Jordan, Cate Blanchett and Christoph Waltz have all been linked at various times only to fall away, but like we said, finding replacements hasn't been a problem.

It's been brewing for a while, but John Hillcoat's cop thriller "Triple Nine" is slowly but surely putting together a helluva cast. Over the summer, Cate Blanchett, Christoph Waltz and Charlie Hunnam all got involved, and while one has been lost since, more exciting choices have come aboard.

The bad news? Well, when we last spoke to John Hillcoat, he said he was aiming to shoot his cop flick "Triple Nine" this spring. That didn't happen. The good news? It looks like it's coming together and putting together a pretty sweet cast to go along with it.

Yesterday we got to talk with one of our favorite filmmakers, John Hillcoat, about his prohibition-era gangster movie "Lawless," out on Blu-ray and DVD next week (more on that soon). We couldn't help but ask the director, who was previously responsible for the aborigines-versus-colonizers western "The Prohibition" and the post-apocalyptic fable "The Road," what was next. He told us about us upcoming crime epic "Triple Nine," his proposed remake of Jean-Pierre Melville's "Le Circle Rouge," and how he wants to do a science-fiction movie set in the distant future.

Twenty fours months and a hot new producer can change everything. It had names like Shia Labeouf, Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, Scarlett Johnasson and Michael Shannon attached, but circa January 2010, John Hillcoat's "Lawless," then known as "The Wettest County" or "The Promised Land" had fallen apart.

Last week, one of our eagle-eyed writers noticed that the generally secretive Annapurna Pictures website had listed Spike Jonze’s latest film as “in production.” Intrigued, we immediately shot off emails to Annapurna reps (the company itself does not answer questions about its production by phone). We heard nothing back until the next day when Deadline reported that Spike Jonze’s latest project, an self-penned, untitled quirky romance picture, was looking to cast Joaquin Phoenix, Carey Mulligan, Amy Adams and Samantha Morton. Coincidence? Possibly, but we’re not sitting around waiting for this one to slip through either.
