Norway's monster horror "Troll Hunter" made somewhat of a splash in genre circles when it was released stateside a couple of years back, so naturally, a remake is in order. And taking on writing and directing duties is "The Descent," "Centurion" and "Game Of Thrones" helmer Neil Marshall, who will redo the André Øvredal original.

With international genre cinema currently in a very healthy state, Hollywood executives are spoiled for choices when it comes to finding foreign filmmakers to bring something fresh to U.S. studio fare. Indeed, stick your head in a multiplex these days and it's hard to find a movie that isn't directed by someone who made their name with a relatively low-budget European horror or crime flick, from "Let The Right One In" director Tomas Alfredson's "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" to "Snabba Cash" helmer Daniel Espinosa's "Safe House."

Greetings, loyal readers. How is your summer 2011 going? Hot and humid enough for ya? Seek solace this weekend in the icy cold climes of your local multiplex, or even your arthouse, they too have air conditioning! This weekend make it a double feature with a little taste for everyone's palate. Blockbusters and art cinema go together like peanut butter and chocolate. Which one is the peanut butter and which one is the chocolate? I don't know! Leave your theories in the comments. For those of you who like your summer movies big and meaty, we've got the lens flare fest, excuse me, I mean nostalgic Spielbergian homage "Super 8" from JJ Abrams. If you like your movies more microbudgeted and wry, try the Steve Coogan road trip flick "The Trip." Maybe you want to catch up with the latest Woody Allen romp, "Midnight in Paris" as it continues its roll out. At any rate, this weekend is a good one for original content. Not a sequel in sight. Yay! Join me now, on this fantastical journey.

You can't argue with success. A nearly identical copy of popular Spanish thriller "[Rec]" hit stateside three years ago under the title of "Quarantine," using the English language but barely changing a thing. The picture did $41 million worldwide on a tiny budget, prompting a sequel (coming out theatrically next week! Who knew? Not us). It should stand to reason that foreign horror would be a hot import, as long as we change the language and faces. Which all leads to the director of "Home Alone" bringing us our own version of "Trollhunter."

If you're one of the countless people that saw "Cloverfield" but felt there just weren't enough trolls, it appears that your needs have been catered to. "Trollhunter" is the latest in the Found Monster Footage genre, a weirdly-specific niche that accommodates the necessity of shooting cheaply with digital video and not showing much of the beast. This kooky Norwegian import pries open a mystery no one was really clamoring to answer, which is: what is buggering around in the forests of Norway? And is it possibly the mythical giant trolls we know from old bedtime stories?
