John Oliver
Last summer while Jon Stewart was off making his directorial debut, "Rosewater," John Oliver stepped in and took on the hosting duties for "The Daily Show," and he did a bang up job. Clearly, people in the high places were watching, as last fall, HBO inked the comedian for a new series, "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver." And now we're getting our first taste of what's to come.

It’s no secret NBC has hit a rough patch over the last few years with new show after new show failing to catch on with audiences. The peacock network is hoping that will change with the sci-fi drama “Believe,” which is coming from the dream team of J.J. Abrams and the newly Oscar-minted Alfonso Cuarón, who directed and co-wrote the pilot. And if couldn’t already wait for its premiere next week, the network has released a new preview of the premiere to whip you up into a frenzy.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in "True Detective"
We're just over 72 hours or so away from finding out the secret behind the killing in "True Detective," and theories continue to fly fast and furious through the psychosphere. But among the more absurd notions that are still being argued in some corners of the internet, is that Rust (Matthew McConaughey) or Martin (Martin Hart) are somehow involved in the killings. It would fly in the face of everything the show has established, and yet, there are some who are still spinning the theory. Well, series writer and creator Nic Pizzolatto is here to tell you quite simply: you're wrong.

What's the best show on television right now? "Game Of Thrones"? "True Detective"? Or is it "Mad Men"? We'll leave you to argue in the comments section, but there's no doubt Matthew Weiner's ad world drama has been a game changer and we're at the beginning of the end. This spring kicks off the first half of the seventh and last season, with AMC spreading out their money maker to make us all keep tuning it. And the first teaser has arrived (via Vulture).

Steven Soderbergh David Gordon Green
Steven Soderbergh has always been one of director David Gordon Green’s models for an ideal career path, and it’s a perplexing thought that the two filmmakers previously haven’t secured a reason to collaborate. They came close—Green’s adaptation of “A Confederacy of Dunces" promised Soderbergh as producer, before the film collapsed under studio politics—but now a prime opportunity has finally arrived, thanks to the heads over at Amazon Studios.

Watch: 'True Detective' "Yellow King" Video Takes The Piss Out Of All The Crazy Theories

True Detective
iO9 did a wonderful job during the first few episodes of HBO’s “True Detective,” laying out all the weird fiction-genre literary references that the show evinced. Especially Robert W. Chambers' “The King in Yellow,” a collection of short stories published in 1895. Writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto is heavily influenced by the genre and its themes of nihilism, solipsism, existential dread and whatnot have clearly made its way into the show. Read More »

How many Martin Luther King projects does Hollywood need all at once? And Oprah Winfrey, she's got two on the move at the same time. Last week it was revealed that she is throwing her producer weight behind Ava DuVernay's "Selma" over at Paramount, and now at HBO, she's got another biopic brewing on the civil rights leader.

Game Of Thrones
Well played HBO, well played. The cable outlet hasn't stopped finding new ways to promo the biggest show on their slate, including the recent announcement of “The Epic Fan Experience” on March 20th at the Cushman & Wakefield Theater at Barclays Center in Brooklyn that will treat 7000 fans to an advanced screening of the fourth season’s debut episode. Tickets cost $15, go on sale through Ticketmaster on March 6th for $15, with all proceeds to going to charity. But if you're not in Brooklyn or don't want to shell out $15 for one episode, here's another way to ride the "Game Of Thrones" pre-season train.
