"I'm a movie star now, bitch," "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul said into his cellphone to HBO, before driving his Ferarri into the Malibu sunset. Okay, that probably didn't happen, but with the actor now toplining the franchise ready "Need For Speed," it seems the allure of the television -- no matter how strong the quality of the project -- is perhaps losing its sheen. Even though it was reported to have a pilot order this summer, it seems HBO's "The Missionary" has had to find a new lead, and indeed they have.

The way things are shaping up, Disney is looking like they will have their fingers in the pie of two the biggest franchises on the planet for the foreseeable future. Of course, there is "Star Wars" which is now gearing up to be a major property for the studio, and then there's Marvel, whose record smashing "The Avengers" proved the brand's global viability on a scale no one could have predicted. And while we wait for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo to return (or whatever), Marvel is continuing to branch out, hoping they can find the same success on the small screen.

As Disney showed earlier this week with the purchase Lucasfilm, it's all about branding, merchandising and leveraging properties so they keep generating revenue as long as possible. And that's no less true at the other major studios that continue to pursue tentpoles that can be sequelized, spun off, packaged in Happy Meals and more. All of which brings us to "How To Train Your Dragon."

As great as HBO generally is, even they are prone to boneheaded moves, and when they decided to cancel the wickedly funny and charming "Bored to Death" after its third season, we were heartbroken. A faint glimmer of hope appeared over the summer when Ted Danson revealed that there was movement brewing for a potential 90-minute movie.
