Despite once calling his attempt to make "Halo" into a feature film a "clusterfuck," Neill Blomkamp has never entirely ruled out the possibility of taking on the video game adaptation again, down the road. “I actually still really like the universe and the world of ‘Halo’ and the mythology of ‘Halo’,” he explained in 2012, though that did come the caveat that he would need total creative freedom.

Sofia Coppola
Since first finding her feet as an actress in promos for Sonic Youth and Madonna before moving on into directing, Sofia Coppola has inextricably melded her observations from the music scene into the DNA of her cinematic efforts. Though she’s filtered both worlds through an affectionate and melancholic tone, a strong sense of humor has crept in as well, and as with Spike Jonze and his “Jackass” origins, we’ve got a taste of Coppola’s early days involving herself in some truly manic shenanigans.

Girls
It's hard to figure out what will most fuel the post-"Girls" talk this week: Hannah's inability to express any kind of emotion following the surprise death of her editor David (John Cameron Mitchell)? Or the digs at Gawker and Jezebel? We'll probably have to go with the latter.

True Detective
While there is a case that needs investigating in "True Detective," the show's richest pleasures have been found in the characters. And in particular, writer Nic Pizzolatto is curious about what makes men tick—what allows them to survive unspeakable horror and what they require to keep a handle on this side of sanity, in a profession that continually brings them face to face with things that defy all logic and humanity. In this week's "The Locked Room," it's those intangible values and qualities that are explored, exposing who we become when those structures are stripped away, and how fragile they can be in the first place.

The spoofs keeping rolling in for "Her," with the man/machine romance sparking some fun takes on the movie. So far, we've seen what Samantha sounds like as voiced by Philip Seymour Hoffman, as well as watched the parody sequel, "Him." Now comes yet another riff on the movie entitled, "Me."

House Of Cards, Season 2
With the multiplex offerings currently a dismal state of affairs, there's no better time than right now than to stay in. Over on HBO, they've got "Girls" and "True Detective" killing it, NBC brings "Hannibal" back next month, Channel 4 drops their Danny Boyle pilot "Babylon" in a few weeks and Sundance Channel unveils "The Red Road" in February. But of course, we can't forget about Netflix's "House Of Cards," with the entire second season dropping like it's hot very soon.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Though the its cinematic universe in divided into three — “Spider-Man” is with Sony, the “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four” characters with Fox, and the rest with the comics giant itself — Marvel is still far ahead of the competition with each of its futures more or less for the next several years. In fact, with “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” the company hopes to slowly introduce more obscure characters from their catalogue to general audiences with the expense of a large blockbuster. In fact, yesterday came news that the middling ABC series will be adding two characters absent from the Marvel cinematic universe up until now.

Twin Peaks
Communication has proven itself somewhat scrambled lately at “Twin Peaks” HQ—or at least as mysteriously messy as befits the David Lynch/Mark Frost-created show. The occasion of a new Blu-ray box set in the works prompted rumors of Lynch shooting a new promo, a claim which Frost deemed as “baseless” and actor Ray Wise then touted as not only accurate, but already completed. Yesterday we learned from Lynch that a new Blu-ray release is in fact coming but that’s it, and now actress Sherilyn Fenn has relayed some choice memories from her two seasons with Lynch & Co.

American Hustle
The small screen continues to be a place of refuge for filmmakers looking to create work outside the tentpole-crazed studio system and the latest carpetbagger is none other than David O. Russell getting in on the action. Per Deadline, the “American Hustle” director is teaming up with “Erin Brockovich” screenwriter Susannah Grant for an untitled “upstairs/downstairs soap set at a private country club.” The show will skip the pilot season altogether and just go straight to series with a thirteen episode order from ABC. Russell and Grant broke the show’s story together but actual scripting duties will fall to Grant. The show will presumably air next fall.

Twin Peaks
When word emerged earlier this month that David Lynch was shooting a new promo for a forthcoming "Twin Peaks" box set, it seemed everyone had an opinion on how true those reports were. The show's co-creator Mark Frost called it "another strange baseless rumor," while Ray Wise (aka Leland Palmer) told Fangoria that there was indeed more coming from the cult show. “Yeah, we [shot the promo for the Blu-ray] two days ago,” he told the horror magazine. “It’s been done. I don’t know if I was supposed to leak that to anybody, but yeah, we did it and I’m not at liberty to say what was done. I can say that it’s going to be a big surprise.” Well, it's certainly a surprise no more.
