With “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” crossing the $100 million mark and awards sure to come, Lee Daniels and screenwriter Danny Strong have decided to stick together for their next project. Deadline reports the duo will take their talents to the small screen through the guidance of Brian Grazer for “a unique family drama set in the world of a hip hop empire.” The untitled project, set to be developed for Fox under “a put pilot commitment,” will see Daniels make his first foray into television as he is set to helm the Strong-scripted pilot.

Breaking Bad
This week has seen “Breaking Bad” fans leading a scattered, troubled existence, after last Sunday's episode “Ozymandias” blew us away in its unflinching, Rian Johnson-helmed march toward the series' finale. In one hour of television, Walt (Bryan Cranston) and his personal desires turned a corner for the even worse, and while the show's producer now claims that the final two episodes will cram in a little more content, another one of television's cruelest creators has weighed in with his own comments.

Pretty soon, all your media will belong to Marvel. With comic studio conquering the multiplex, and establishing that for the next few years, barely six months will go by without another superhero movie to promote or release, they are now turning their sights to TV. Next week, "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." will kick off on ABC, and it seems that's just the tipping point of what could be much more serialized adventures.

With Blumhouse having a great weekend with "Insidious: Chapter 2" destroying the box office, leading to near instant development on a third movie, the horror house is barely stopping to take a breath. They've announced yet another scare flick with a one word title beginning the letter "I"—"Incarnate."

TV news! You know, those things that you can sometimes hook up to Netflix, if they're new enough! Remember the early seasons of “Lost”? Remember when you absolutely had to know what was up with those numbers? Remember when you thought Matthew Fox had a brilliant career ahead of him? 2004 was a strange time, and “Lost” was a huge hit that launched its creators largely out of TV land and into the movies.

“Television is no longer film’s poorer cousin. I think it’s a place where a lot of the serious acting and great writing is taking place now,” Simon Pegg—who has a role in TNT's upcoming "Mob City"—recently told The Independent. “But the way we watch TV is definitely changing. The networks have to keep up with that. We are definitely now in the age of (subscription television and film download service) Netflix.” Well, it seems that AMC didn't get the memo.

AMC clearly knows which side their bread is buttered on, and who is spreading. Even with "Breaking Bad" coming to an end in two weeks, they've already greenlit a prequel series, centered around sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman. And now, the network's other smash success show is also expanding, with AMC clearly taking a page from their major studio counterparts.

You can take the kid out of Boston, but you can't take Boston out of the kid. No matter where his career goes, it seems Ben Affleck will always be drawn to stories set in the city where he was raised. His next directorial effort, "Live By Night," will tackle the Prohibition era in Beantown, and even though his dance card is filling up with roles in David Fincher's "Gone Girl" and a tiny, indie no has heard of called "Superman Vs. Batman," Affleck isn't slowing down a moment and is taking a look at a small screen project.

As word of a brand new, "Harry Potter"-inspired film series dropped this morning, it's reminder that studios are continuing to seek ways to build on existing properties, because you make your money investing in stuff people already know, instead of trying to launch something new. And so we come to "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." which sees the Marvel-verse expanding on the small screen, and with the show to kick off in a just a couple weeks, some new peeks have arrived.
