While “Kissing Jessica Stein” helmer Jennifer Westfeldt’s recent “Friends With Kids” was more of a “conventional look at unconventional relationships” than we had hoped for according to our review, we can’t deny that the writer-director consistently produces worthwhile adult fare – and certainly has proven to be far more than just “Mad Men” actor Jon Hamm’s long-time partner.

There's no question a new standard of television has resulted from the last ten years, largely stemming from HBO's original programming, with shows like “The Sopranos,” “Carnivale,” and “Oz” all brandishing new forms of storytelling that are unafraid to go to shocking and explicit depths to depict their characters' lives to the audience. That's all well and good for the viewer, who now finds himself with smart, engaging shows down every alley, but what does it mean for the long-gestating “Star Wars” TV series, and its suitable place on the air?

We've sort of been on the fence about the idea of bringing Thomas Harris' "Hannibal" to the small screen (particularly on network TV), but so far the production has been making all the right moves. Intriguingly, instead of jumping to right to the cannibal we know from "Silence Of The Lambs," the show will follow Hannibal Lecter – prior to his incarceration and working as a practicing psychiatrist – solving crimes alongside Will Graham (played by Hugh Dancy), Lecter’s FBI partner. And now they've landed one helluva actor for the title role.

Certainly, Chloe Sevigny -- who has movies like "Kids" and "The Brown Bunny" on her resumé -- has never shied away from risky or challenging roles, but unlike those aforementioned films, this latest endeavor might be for her most mainstream audience yet.

Last fall, Wes Craven kept some kind of dim hope alive that a "Scream 5" might get made, it doesn't look like that's going to happen. While "Scream 4" managed to make $97 million worldwide, it was the first in the series to fail to crack $100 million, but most crucially, was poorest performer of the lot. Domestically, it couldn't even do half of what "Scream 3" did. But since franchises never say die, it looks like the concept may live on.

Charlize Theron Says 'Fury Road' Not A Sequel Or Prequel & Now Shoots In July; Pitching Modern Day 'Hatfields & McCoys' For TV

Charlize Theron is enjoying a particularly high profile at the moment thanks to a couple of big roles in “Prometheus” and “Snow White and the Huntsman” - just think how much we’d be talking about her right now if she’d have justifiably picked up an Oscar nomination earlier in the year for her performance in “Young Adult." Now that all of those films have (just about) made their way to theatres and can be judged on their merits, we can now turn our attention to some of her upcoming projects including George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Thomas Jane To Play Bugsy Siegel In Frank Darabont's 'L.A. Noir'

While Thomas Jane is best known for -- and usually relegated to -- roles that play on his physique and his overt whiff of testosterone, he's somewhat underrated. As anyone who watched HBO's excellent, funny and sadly cancelled "Hung" knows, Jane's man-meat persona was put to good use playing a gigolo in economically-ravaged Detroit, trying to make ends meet for his ex-wife and kids. He was great in the role, showing both the raw sexuality he can project and a tender, softer side as well. All this to say the dude has more range than you might expect, but then again, if you just want him to knock some heads, he can do that too.

Emma Stone is about to be launched into the stratosphere this summer. The actress who worked her way up the ladder with considerable charm in a string of films ("Superbad," "Easy A," "Stupid Crazy Love," "The Help") features in her first franchise in "The Amazing Spider-Man." Then later this fall, she'll go all femme fatale alongside the macho cast of "Gangster Squad." But lest you think she doesn't have time to have fun anymore, you'd be mistaken.
