After a long, long absence from filmmaking, legendary "The Godfather" helmer Francis Ford Coppola resurfaced a few years back with some of his most impressive works since the early 1980s. We didn't wholeheartedly adore either "Youth Without Youth" or "Tetro," but there was still much to admire, and furthermore, they felt like Coppola had returned to filmmaking with the vigor and energy of a young man, suggesting much more to come.

Running from September 8-18, we're essentially at the midway check-in point of the Toronto International Film Festival. Keeping up with all of the reviews is nuts, hell keeping up with our own reviews is taxing.

Francis Ford Coppola has played quite a few roles in his five-decade-long career. He started as a low-budget filmmaker in skin flicks and Roger Corman films before becoming an icon with a hugely impressive run of films that started with "The Godfather" and, arguably, ended with "Apocalypse Now." The director struggled throughout the '80s and '90s, first attempting to bankroll his expensive projects through his American Zoetrope label, then as a director for hire in Hollywood after a run of flops nearly bankrupted him. But instead of continuing to struggle within the studio system he instead opted to go independent again.

So, will Francis Ford Coppola's remix-ready gothic horror pic "Twixt" be a game changer or simply another B-movie with above average talent? Judging by the first trailer for the film -- which is the same footage they showed at Comic-Con just over a week ago -- it looks like it's somewhere in between.

After the recent unveiling of posters for Francis Ford Coppola's "Twixt" that seem more indicative of the film's dark, gothic tones, a handful of new images have been released, including the first glimpse at Coppola family favorite Alden Ehrenreich and vet Bruce Dern in the film along with star Val Kilmer.

So who would've thought that at Comic-Con over the weekend, the most groundbreaking presentation would come from 72 year-old filmmaking legend Francis Ford Coppola? Indeed, the director showed the young whippersnappers how it's done with a presentation of his forthcoming gothic horror pic "Twixt" that included 3D Edgar Allan Poe masks and a screening of footage that Coppola remixed live all from his iPad. Not bad. We've already seen a few pics from the film, suggesting a surreal, atmospheric vibe, but if these promo posters are anything to go by, Coppola won't be holding back on the red stuff either.

After the recent set photo of Francis Ford Coppola and Elle Fanning on set of their the director's new film "Twixt," three new stills have been unveiled from its inclusion in the TIFF line-up including the first look at lead Val Kilmer, who stars as "a burnt-out mystery writer who gets mixed up in murder and evil in a California town."

Also Reveals 3D Sequences In "Twixt" Will Come In The Middle & At The End Of The FilmComic-Con '11: If there was one person no one would have predicted to steal the Comic-Con thunder in 2011, it was Francis Ford Coppola. The announcement of his presence at this year’s show, twenty years after a brief appearance for “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” in 1991, drew raised eyebrows and familiar rumblings of whether there should be more stringent qualifications as to what exactly qualifies a film or television project to show at the convention. But those doubts were quickly set aside when Coppola handed out Edgar Allen Poe 3D masks to baffled Hall H attendees upon entrance. In an age of remakes, reboots, rehashes and sequel mania, who would have thought it would take a 72 year-old director best known for work decades ago to bring a dose of fresh air to the rather predictable happenings of geekdom’s centerpiece?

Francis Ford Coppola Reveals He's Already At Work On A New Script & Says He Doesn't Like 3D Glasses For A Whole FilmReturning to Comic-Con for the first time nearly two decades after he hit San Diego to stump for "Bram Stoker's Dracula," director Francis Ford Coppola made sure it was an event to remember. In what will likely be one of the most talked about presentations when everyone wakes up in a geek hangover on Monday, Coppola unveiled footage from his upcoming gothic horror flick "Twixt," but in an interesting twist that set Twitter on fire, he edited and shaped footage on the fly using an app on his iPad. Though there were some technical problems in what was described as a "dress rehearsal attempt," our man on the ground Jeff Otto described it as a "pretty crazy presentation" that was "definitely original and entertaining."
