Under The Skin
An arty, surreal, beautiful, enigmatic head-scratcher, A24 is tasked with selling the unconventional "Under The Skin" to a wide audience, without presenting Jonathan Glazer's movie as something it's not. Yes, it's about an alien, disguised in the drop dead body of Scarlett Johansson, preying on men across Scotland. But no, it's not what you think that logline leads you to believe. Largely dialogue free, almost documentary-like in approach at times, while throwing all regular notions of narrative out the window, viewers will have to lean into a bit (and will be rewarded for their efforts). But to get them there, A24 doing some stealth campaigning.

Under The Skin, Brad Pitt
With nine far too long years elapsing between 2004's "Birth" and the film festival premiere last year of "Under The Skin," Jonathan Glazer has been asked by many what took so long for the movie to get made. Indeed, we posed the question to him last year in Toronto.

Under The Skin
She might be kicking all sorts of ass as Black Widow in this spring's blockbuster "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," but Scarlett Johansson will be much deadlier (and sexier) in "Under The Skin." The sci-fi mindbender is headed to theatres soon, and after a series of tantalizing teasers, the first clip from the film has arrived.

Under The Skin
In case you haven't been able to tell, we're pretty over the moon about Jonathan Glazer's "Under The Skin" (you can see two of our comments about the movie in the latest trailer). And of the many elements that come together to make the picture so great, is the score by Mica Levi.

Under The Skin
While the final result of Jonathan Glazer's brilliant "Under The Skin" is a tightly controlled, sharply honed piece, the production was much more loose than you might think. "There were lots of pieces, lots of film that was shot, 270 hours of film I think," the director told us at TIFF last year. "Sometimes I had eight cameras running...there were fantastic scenes that I didn't get permission to use. So it was quite a high wire act in that sense, you would not know what you were going to get every day. You would take risks that meant that you might be shooting for three hours and end up with nothing."

Under The Skin
While it might seem like nothing but sequels and blockbusters on the horizon, this spring, a film is arriving that is intellectually satisfying, completely riveting and an undeniably unique piece of work. We're talking about "Under The Skin," and after some new pics earlier this week, a terrific red band teaser trailer is here, cut by Jonathan Glazer himself.

Scarlett Johansson's Banned Super Bowl Ad
On the surface, a movie about an alien coming to Earth, hiding among us and harvesting human bodies seems familiar and perhaps even predictable. But not when it's in the hands of Jonathan Glazer. To truly capture the experience of a creature from another realm, operating openly among humans, he largely shot many sequences in the Scarlett Johansson starring-film with non-professional actors, sometimes guerrilla style, with multiple cameras hidden, but on the move.

20 Best 2014 Films We've Already Seen
The more OCD among us here at Playlist Towers find it a source of constant aggravation that release dates vary so much from territory to territory, and festivals often get premieres a full 18-or-so months before a film gains a proper U.S. release, that doing a cut-and-dried list of any given year’s movies becomes less science than art. And while it’s an art that has already yielded our first magnum opus of the year, the 100 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2014, (and we should probably be awarded the rest of January off as a result) there’s still a category of film we’ve left unmined: those movies that we saw and reviewed in 2013 at festivals or sneak screenings or parts foreign that won’t be in theaters until 2014.
