When “V/H/S” came out last year, reaction was… mixed, to put it lightly. Like most anthology films, it was wildly uneven. But it seems the concept is just too irresistible for other filmmakers to resist and thus, we have “V/H/S 2.” Originally titled “S-V/H/S”, the sequel premiered at Sundance this past January to a much more positive reception than the first (read our review). Now a red band trailer has just been posted online over at Yahoo and there’s only one way to describe it: utter mayhem.

Last year, the indie horror anthology "V/H/S" was released and promised to be chock full of truly in-your-face terror – these were fearless directors, given complete creative freedom, and squeezed together under a tight, blood-soaked package. Of course, the promise of "V/H/S" and the actual movie itself were quite different, and while there were certainly some gems (including entries by Ti West and Joe Swanberg that blurred the line between mumblecore and horror even further), most of them were overlong and uninvolving and (worse yet) reinforced some of the worst traits in the horror genre, including an undercurrent of ugly misogyny that was knotted through almost every section.

Sundance isn't all coming of age stories, biopics, documentaries and brain-scratching indies. Some entries are just there to thrill and entertain, and while the upcoming "S-VHS" won't be threatening anybody for awards, if this teaser trailer is anything to go by, it still be one that has everyone talking.

The folks in Park City have lifted the curtain on the Spotlight, New Frontier and Park City At Midnight offerings and there are a couple of curiosities worth noting.

“V/H/S” may have failed to make any great waves at the box office, but at various festivals and within the horror community, the found-footage anthology carved out a sizable audience who were taken with what they saw. With segments directed by Joe Swanberg and Ti West among others, the movie was said to breathe new life into the found-footage genre, and a sequel was duly set in motion.
