Though Universal Pictures seemed the picture of suffering through 2012 -- crawling through the “Battleship” disaster and receiving tepid returns on their other large bets -- the year was in fact the studio's highest-grossing worldwide. “Ted,” “The Lorax,” and “Les Miserables” are mostly to thank for that, but for a renewed 2013? It seems Kristen Stewart, “Fifty Shades Of Grey,” and Rex Reed's worst nightmare lead the charge.

It takes two to tango, and while Kristen Stewart was kind of put over the coals for her dalliance with "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders, his narrative became that of a man trying to save his marriage. And while we let the tabloids keep tabs on that latest in the affair fallout, everyone else and Sanders too it seems is getting on with their lives. Universal is pushing ahead with a sequel to the fairy tale movie with Stewart, but the question remains as to whether or not Sanders will return. And if he doesn't, it seems there may be another franchise for him to put his hands on.

We’re not sure that author Bram Stoker would’ve ever imagined that the characters in his beloved novel “Dracula” would one day be considered multi-billion dollar franchise properties. Though it doesn’t just stop at the titular character – played most famously by the one and only Bela Lugosi – but also the man who was always hot on the heels of the fanged phantom; Abraham Van Helsing.

Universal wants to be in the Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci business, and why wouldn't they? The writing pair are one of the hottest hires around town, having lent their pens to two "Transformers" movies, "Star Trek" and its upcoming sequel, and they were just hired by Sony to rewrite "The Amazing Spider-man 2." Unfortunately, the only project they did for Universal was the bomb "Cowboys & Aliens" but the studio is banking that their track record will score them another winner.
