Guardians Of The Galaxy
Now, they’re all over t-shirts and lunchboxes, but back in 2008 when Marvel Studios were kicking off as their own self-producing entity, their characters weren’t all that well known. Captain America was probably the most familiar (along with the Hulk), but Iron Man and Thor and Nick Fury and co. were, while obviously known and loved by comic fans, pretty unrecognizable to general audiences, who knew more immediately iconic characters like Batman, Superman and Spider-Man, far better. Now, the roster of The Avengers are all household names, but with Spidey, X-Men and the Fantastic Four still under the clutches of other studios, and contracts on the original actors running out, Marvel are being forced to turn to some of their more obscure properties.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
It's still about two weeks from Marvel's "Guardians Of The Galaxy" opening all over the planet, and the studio really, really wants this one to be a big success. They've already had a special, one night only IMAX preview earlier this month, unveiling seventeen minutes worth of footage. But if you couldn't make it or want to see more, six minutes from the movie are now online to show off James Gunn's irreverent outer space superhero flick.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
So far, the superheroes of 2014 have presented a mixed bag. We've had one pretty good movie ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier"), a pretty terrible one ("The Amazing Spider-Man 2") and one yet to be determined (this weekend's "X-Men: Days Of Future Past"). And there's still more to come. At the end of the summer, Marvel will unleash "Guardians Of The Galaxy," and a brand new trailer has arrived hoping to convince you to go into orbit ... or at least to your closest multiplex.

Ice Cube, Paul Walker
Dude, it’s the MTV Movie Awards, what is there to get upset about? It’s about 1,000 rungs below the Oscars, so nothing to freak about if you don't win. But in case you missed it, this is what Ice Cube had to say about his comedy “Ride Along” not winning the Best Duo Award at Sunday’s prestigious MTV Movie Awards.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
The first trailer for "Guardians Of Galaxy" dropped on Monday night, and for the most part, fans were hugely enthusiastic about James Gunn's film, vibing with the winking tone of the superhero flick. But there was one major thing missing from its first promo: voices. Outside of Chris Pratt's Star-Lord, we didn't really hear anything out of the rest of the (mostly CGI enhanced) cast. Well, that's about to change.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
So, a superhero movie with a raccoon and talking tree among the team, many have said (including us) that "Guardians Of The Galaxy" represents the biggest roll of the dice Marvel has taken to date. Just don't tell that to director James Gunn. "I don't think it's the riskiest Marvel property," he told Total Film. "I think 'Iron Man' was by far the riskiest. It was a film company that didn't have much, raising money to make a film based on a property that wasn't that much more well known than 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' So I think it's not even close to the riskiest Marvel property." Of course, Tony Stark now has three standalone movies to his name and the question is, can 'Guardians' reach that level of success?

Fast & Furious 7
Given that they were already on a tight schedule to meet a 2014 release date prior to Paul Walker's death, it's not a surprise that Universal is now giving themselves a bit more breathing room to complete "Fast & Furious 7."

Do people still play "Kane & Lynch"? We have no idea, but Hollywood has been hellbent on making a movie out of the franchise for years. Way, way back in 2010 "The Cooler" and "Running Scared" helmer Wayne Kramer was going to direct the movie that had Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx attached, but it never materialized. Then F. Gary Gray ("The Italian Job") slid into the director's chair but still nothing happened and the project sorta faded away. But Gray has hung onto the job and now there's fresh life as an old pal of his is coming on board to star.

Genredom: Vin Diesel, Marvel, Bad Robot Teaser, Benedict Cumberbatch Might Still Be In 'Star Wars' (Probably Not Though) & More

Nerds are an easily excitable bunch, especially if they're in the position of also being journalists (or maybe "journalists" with airquotes is a better distinction), where flights of fancy and endless speculation can easily usurp actual reporting. Such is the case with boundless theorizing about Benedict Cumberbatch being in "Star Wars: Episode VII," which seems to be more a case of collective wishful thinking than anything concrete or remotely plausible. Well, there's even more on that subject (prepare your eyes, as they're about to roll), as well as further details on that mysterious Bad Robot trailer from a few weeks ago and Vin Diesel running his mouth again about what he's doing with Marvel. Have the largest grain of salt you can find at the ready.

Review: 'Riddick' Starring Vin Diesel, Katee Sackhoff, And Karl Urban

Riddick
"Pitch Black," released by Universal in 2000 to little fanfare, was a small-scale genre movie that took almost everyone who saw it by surprise. It featured a nifty conceit (space travelers are marooned on a hostile alien world inhabited by nocturnal predators days before a lengthy solar eclipse) and an agreeably asshole-ish antihero in Riddick (Vin Diesel), a gruff prisoner who escapes in the crash. The problem, of course, was that Universal mistakenly took a cult phenomenon for the stuff of big budget crossover material, and when "The Chronicles of Riddick" opened in 2004, it was clogged with "world building" nonsense and ornate production design that was halfway between "Dune" and "Dungeons & Dragons."
