It was Rio for “Fast Five,” and in the most recent entry, “Furious 6,” the crew spent the majority of their time in London and Spain. Dominic Toretto’s practically James Bond by this point, right?

"Fast & Furious" is the franchise that keeps going from strength to strength, while "Riddick," Vin Diesel's other long-running series, is the one that just won't die. Diesel got his big break as the gravel-voiced, contact-lensed psychopath in David Twohy's "Pitch Black" in 2000, and after he became a star, Universal invested big in "The Chronicles of Riddick," and took a financial bath on a film that proved pretty incoherent and ugly (if occasionally intriguing).

Has there ever been a franchise like the "Fast & Furious?" Begun over ten years ago with a film most notable for its '50s-style B-movie title, "The Fast & The Furious," it was a modest sleeper hit. Before long the series saw its biggest draw, the potato-headed growl-monster Vin Diesel, exit the series before it really got going, leading to the Paul Walker solo outing "2 Fast 2 Furious." Unsurprisingly, the box office for that one took a hit, a trend that continued with the Walker-free third outing "The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift." But ever since the series has been on a constant upswing, with "Fast Five" making nearly half-a-billion dollars worldwide, and even winning some critical plaudits, at least for series veteran Justin Lin.

The only question facing Universal right now is just how much of the $626 million worldwide that "Fast Five" made, will be matched or exceeded by "Fast & Furious 6." There is really no doubt it's going to be a monster hit at this point, because no matter where you stand on this series, or whether or not you're a film snob, Vin Diesel driving the car out of the front of a jetplane is fucking awesome. Universal knows this, and that's why they're already looking ahead to next year.

Yes, you guessed it, it's the new teaser trailer for "Riddick," the fourth film in the Riddick series after "Pitch Black," "The Chronicles of Riddick," the animated movie "The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury" and now, this latest picture. Frankly, it's ridic-ulous that the original films spawned a franchise, but clearly Vin Diesel has loyal fans and an audience is hungering for these sci-fi films to continue.
