Worst/Disappointing So Far... 2014
We’ve said it before, notably as a lead-in to our recent Best Films Of The Year So Far feature, but 2014 is looking to be a pretty good year for the movies, with a lot more to celebrate than commiserate being unveiled this past six months. And if we can say that the week that “Transformers: Age of Extinction” is the big release, you know we must really mean it. However, as the song goes, along with all the sunshine, there’s gotta be a little rain sometimes, and how would we even know how great some of our high points were if we didn’t periodically experience the lows? Even in the best years, there’ll be a few films that stick in our various craws, and so in our bi-annual attempt to exorcize those demons, here’s a rundown of the films our staff members most disliked this year, thus far.

Walk Of Shame
Meghan Miles is a good girl. Straight-laced, the local L.A. news anchor comes from a polished conservative family from Texas. And so when a potential promotion opens up at a larger network affiliate, the prim and proper Miles seems like their ideal choice; a safe candidate. However, before the TV journalist can focus on the potential elevation, her life is sideswiped — her fiancé moves out taking everything with him. Encouraged by her best friends, her devastating upheaval leads to a night of binge drinking and “Walk of Shame” begins its ill-conceived evening (and morning after) of wacky misadventures.

10 Comic Actresses
Happily, we can say something in 2014 that we haven't been able to for a long while: it's a good time for comedy actresses in movies. What once was a barren, bromance-filled wasteland, has filled up somewhat with the success of "Bridesmaids" and "The Heat," among others, convincing studio executives and indie financiers that there's a sizable audience for female-led comedy out there.

Walk Of Shame
Ah yes, the walk of shame — the post-coital ritual that we've all experienced, leaving someone's place in the morning smelling of fluids, with sex hair matted to improbably angles. And that concept takes a whole other turn in "Walk Of Shame," with the comedy getting a red band trailer.

Walk Of Shame
The infamous walk of shame, the always awkward getaway from a random hookup, has been seen in more than a few movies over the years. But in the upcoming and appropriately titled "Walk Of Shame," that morning after exit is just the start of what turns out to be a helluva trip for one woman.

While we enjoyed "Pitch Perfect," for this writer the comedic highlight wasn't Rebel Wilson or Anna Kendrick, but Elizabeth Banks (who also produced the movie, fyi). Her small role alongside John Michael Higgins as a capella commentators provided some of the biggest belly laughs, and while we wait for someone to figure out that those two should lead their own movie together, we'll be content with the fact that Banks is getting a new comedy vehicle.
