This year at Cannes, it seems that you'll be able to throw a rock and manage to hit a celebrity. In stark contrast to last year's festival -- which some colleagues told us was the worst in a decade -- Cannes honcho Thierry Fremaux is bringing the goods this year with a cineaste's wet dream of films from some of the finest auteurs working today. However, what unfolds over the next few days will be fascinating. Not everything can be a masterpiece, there will be some unexpected disasters and more enticingly, some pleasant surprises. We've run down the list of the films that are likely to be making the biggest noise on the Croisette this year, and given the lineup, some of these choices are certainly obvious. We've tried to mix it up a little bit and the list might be more notable for what has been left off as well. Watch for our coverage starting tomorrow and expect reviews over the next ten days of each of the below films and more.

Lynne Ramsay's "We Need To Talk About Kevin," with Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly is undoubtedly one of our most anticipated films of the Cannes Film Festival and these snippets from the film are even better than we could have expected.

It has been almost a decade since Lynne Ramsay's "Morvern Callar," and while some of that time was spent on an adaptation of "The Lovely Bones" that was scuttled (with Peter Jackson later delivering his take on the material to theaters), we're glad she's finally back. Next month she'll hit Cannes with "We Need To Talk About Kevin" another tough drama that promises to be a doozy.

It would be safe to say that The Playlist is as sick of the just-wrapped-up awards season as anyone. The endless ceremonies, often with the same results, the blind guesses, the half-informed speculation; by the time it reaches March, we're kind of furious with the whole circus.

What a helluva ride it's been for fans of decent music over the past Sunday evening and Monday morning. First, Arcade Fire take home the Grammy for Album Of The Year, trumping a host of favored (and frankly, shitty) acts. Radiohead announces a new album -- "The King Of Limbs" -- this morning that is already on pre-sale and be released digitally this forthcoming Saturday and now, THR reports that Jonny Greenwood will be taking on the scoring duties for Lynne Ramsay's upcoming drama "We Need To Talk About Kevin." Awesome.

2011 is quickly shaping up to be an exciting year for female-driven/directed pictures, with a wealth of great, intelligent options for people that are frankly sick of the overtly male-dominated market (or Katherine Heigl). Multiplexes will see Kristen Wiig lead an ensemble of funny ladies in "Bridesmaids," art house cinemas get Kelly Reichardt's dustbowl period piece "Meek's Cutoff," festivals continue to be graced by Slamdance-winner "Without," and hopefully the online community will see a glimpse of the Linda Cardellini war movie “Return” (hint hint), which has been compared to "Safe" and "A Woman Under The Influence.” Yowza.

Alright, continuing with our Most Anticipated Films of 2011 series which will roughly be in four parts (unfortunately, character/size limits prevent us from doing one massive feature). Here's part one which we published yesterday. If you're wondering where some of the tentpoles were yesterday -- "X-Men: First Class," "Cowboys And Aliens" and "Sherlock Holmes" -- well, they're here. If you were asking, whether indie-driven auteurs would be represented -- Lynne Ramsay's return with "We Need To Talk About Kevin," Mike Mills' "Beginners" or David Cronenberg's "A Dangerous Method" -- well, they're all here too. The way these lists are lumped together is a bit arbitrary, so don't fret, lots and lots more Most Anticipated Films of 2011.
