"West of Memphis" doesn’t ignore the fact that filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky have already crafted a trilogy of documentaries concerning the perceived injustice of the West Memphis Three, three Arkansas teens convicted in 1994 of murdering three young boys in 1993. In their small town, the threat of satanic cults made the juvenile delinquents ripe for persecution, but over the two decades since, conflicting testimonies and newly uncovered evidence have caused many to reach out and champion their cause of innocence.

Earlier today, Deadline reported on rumors that had been flying about a last minute addition to the film, a scene that would bring forth important new evidence to the case that was only obtained in the last month. Press screenings prior to Sundance in New York and Los Angeles were apparently missing a scene, and right now with the film unspooling in Park City, a press release has gone out confirming the latest twist in the saga of the West Memphis Three.

After three in-depth "Paradise Lost" documentaries (by filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky), countless bouts of media coverage, benefit concerts, awareness campaigns and more, is another movie about the plight of the now freed (but still legally guilty) West Memphis Three needed? Well, it seems the answer is yes, and as the trailer for the forthcoming "West Of Memphis" displays, even if you know everything about the story, it's no less fascinating or compelling.

Sometime over the past year it was revealed that Peter Jackson, the talented, Oscar-winning director behind the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy (and, more recently, the more morose "Lovely Bones"), had been a quiet, but very involved supporter of the West Memphis Three.
