It's a man's man's man's world. And while James Brown told us that "it don't mean nothing without a woman," what he forgot to mention is that she's probably never getting top billing. Or, at any rate, not this weekend. If we leave the titles aside -- "Iron Man 3," "The Iceman," and "Dead Man's Burden" -- there's still barely a female lead or a subject centered on women to be found, unless we're counting feminine dominance in vampire loving circles. The theater docket showcases superheroes, contract killers, rock stars, student protestors, psychotherapists, cowboys, and magicians and yet -- despite all that variety -- nary a one of them are women. Not that there isn't still plenty to love -- a solid blockbuster franchise returns, the always arresting Michael Shannon gets another turn at badassery, the Cassavetes family continues its industry legacy, and 35mm celluloid gets its due in a Western. So let us know, dear readers: what are you looking forward to seeing on the silver screen?

It’s often an easy way to handicap your film, by centering it on a child character and demanding a great deal from the young actor. By definition, children are not fully-formed people, but a character in a film must be either fully-formed to yield proper dramatic results, or so uniquely authentic that it’s like catching chaos in a bottle, an approach that can create a serious cognitive dissonance when youth collides with seasoned actors. Remarkably, such chaos is present in young Onata Aprile, the title character of “What Maisie Knew,” an affecting new contemporary drama that never once feels phony when the camera is fixed on her face.

Boasting a kinship with "The Kids Are All Right" by sharing the same producers, if anything "What Maisie Knew" does indeed look like it will be another look at modern relationships warts and all. And it also shares Julianne Moore, who stars here, once again as a mother, albeit with an altogether different set of circumstances surrounding her child and how she'll press on when her family unit is ruptured.

With source material from legendary author Henry James, and a cast that includes Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgard and Steve Coogan, there are a lot of things to look forward to in the forthcoming "What Maisie Knew." After doing a brief festival run last year that included stops in Toronto and Tokyo, the film is coming to theaters and we've got the exclusive poster below.

TIFF is pretty much dragging to a close (though doesn't officially wrap up until the weekend) -- everything major has premiered, and those critics who haven't already departed the city are mostly just catching up on stuff they couldn't see due to clashes otherwise. But the film market's still ticking along, and while several high-profile pictures remain, two more have just been snapped up.

Hey guys, the internet can be totally fun times with stuff like Tumblr, porn, Facebook, memes, YouTube and whatnot. However, very bad stuff can happen on it too, and it could probably ruin your life or something. That seems to be the message of "Disconnect," the first narrative feature from "Murderball" director Henry Alex Rubin, and his first movie since 2005.

While Lars von Trier might get himself into trouble with everybody else and may have ruffled the feathers of Björk, who swore off acting after starring in "Dancer In the Dark," the Danish auteur has a small stable of actors who continue to return to his films. The promise of working on a set that is unlike anything else they will ever experience is a lure and coupled with the director's ambitious and at times outrageous concepts, it's just too good to resist. But for rising star Alexander Skarsgård, he received firsthand knowledge from someone very close to him who is one of von Trier's most frequent collaborators.

Scott McGehee and David Siegel are a curious directing pair. With a mere four films across over fifteen years, they've made consistently interesting work without ever quite knocking one out of the park. Their noirish racial-identity debut "Suture" is arguably their best -- championed by Steven Soderbergh, and with a terrific turn by Dennis Haysbert, it still holds up well today. Their long-awaited follow up "The Deep End" had another storming central performance, from Tilda Swinton, but had a more straightforward take on the genre, while kabbalistic spelling oddity "Bee Season," with Richard Gere, didn't really work, and the Joseph Gordon-Levitt indie "Uncertainty" never got much traction with audiences or critics.
