Dawn of the Planet Of the Apes
Well, it looks like we have our second repeat of the #1 position of this year. Before now, Michael Bay’s “Transformers: Age Of Extinction” was the only film of 2014 to stay at the #1 box office position for two weeks in a row. But now Matt Reeves’ “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” has achieved the same distinction. Falling only 50% (a great hold for a tentpole), the film was still able to gross $36 million in its second week of release to retain the box-office top spot. The movie is now at $138 million domestically, and reaching $200 million at home seems like a foregone conclusion. Pundits are already hypothesizing that the film will hit around over $600 million worldwide, which is a strong sign for the life of this franchise. But the box-office is still ailing domestically overall, down some 45% from 2013.

Review: Zach Braff's Uneven But Sincere 'Wish I Was Here' Co-starring Kate Hudson, Josh Gad And More

Wish I Was Here, Zach Braff
In the ten years since its release, Zach Braff’s debut “Garden State” has gone from Sundance darling to sleeper hit to pop culture pariah. The film still has its fans but the opposition seems to have grown louder, as every stylistic tic and soundtrack-cue has become a subject of easy derision. Between that film’s cooling reputation and the outcry when Braff turned to Kickstarter to help with funding for his latest, the actor-turned-filmmaker has faced the kind of backlash normally reserved for actor-directors who steal their source material and apologize with skywriting. Which is a shame, because Braff seems like a good dude and, like him or not, you can’t argue that his sensibility hasn’t connected with a lot of people. During the first 30 minutes or so of “Wish I Was Here,” the actor/director/writer’s long awaited follow-up to “Garden State,” I was fully prepared to toss my cred out the window and admit that, while it won’t win back his haters, dammit it works. Unfortunately, after a brisk and engaging first act, the film becomes bogged down by an overabundance of subplots and increasingly maudlin dramatic turns that threaten to sink the entire affair.

Wish I Was Here, Zach Braff
With a hip soundtrack, and a film promising no shortage of life lessons, Zach Braff hasn't really changed up the formula much for his "Garden State" followup "Wish I Was Here." Except for the fact that it was crowd-funded, this looks like most indies coming down the line, with a strong distributor behind it, recognizable faces and more. And three clips have arrived to show you what Braff has put together this time around.

Wish I Was Here, Zach Braff
Get your iPods ready (do people still use those?) as Zach Braff is back. The "Garden State" writer/director is ready to bring some twee dramedy flavor to your summer with his Kickstarter funded "Wish I Was Here," and certainly, some of that cash must have gone to securing some of these artists, because the line-up of new songs he's managed to score is pretty impressive. Hell, folks at major studios aren't even putting in this kind of effort, so hats off to Braff.

Wish I Was Here
"You gotta hear this one song, it'll change your life I swear," Natalie Portman says in "Garden State." With that, The Shins shot to massive fame off the back of "New Slang," while everyone swooned to Zach Braff's directorial debut, until they decided it was apparently one of the worst movies ever. (Guys, it's not that bad—there, we said it.) A decade later and Braff is back and causing more controversy with the Kickstarter-funded "Wish I Was Here," which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Credit to Braff, he's not shying away from what worked before.

Wish I Was Here

And the first few images from the movie are here to show contributors what they paid for.

Even if we wouldn't say he's quite cracked it yet, we've got a lot of respect for the way that Zac Efron is trying to establish himself as a proper grown-up adult actor. After all, the "High School Musical" series would be an albatross for many, but Efron's quietly been banging out a diverse mix of parts, and while things like "The Paperboy" and "At Any Price" haven't quite paid off yet, he's heading in the right direction. The actor's got several promising projects in the can already, including rom-com "Are We Officially Dating?," JFK ensemble drama "Parkland" and Seth Rogen/Nick Stoller comedy "Townies," and now, hot on the back of signing on to Eran Creevy's "Autobahn," the actor's just lined up thriller "Narc." Sounding a bit like a laugh-free "21 Jump Street," the project's being described as a based-in-fact, college-set version of "Donnie Brasco," and will see the actor play a fratboy who's busted for cocaine possession, and who agrees to become an informant to avoid jail time. The film's set up at Fox
