Consider this a matchup of brands moreso than movies. "The Hunger Games" ruled the roost for the third straight weekend, the new millennial hit beating back two 90's sensations with ease, almost suggesting a passing of the torch. Young people will always like sweeping romance and bawdy sex, but for this weekend, it was all about that popular pastime of child-on-child murder.

Weekend Box Office: 'Hunger Games' Takes Another Bite Of The Marketplace, 'Wrath Of The Titans' Underwhelms

It was intriguing to see “The Hunger Games” register an opening weekend just below “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” and “The Dark Knight.” Would it mimic 'Potter,' which scored the biggest domestic opening of all time but plummeted by 72% the following weekend? Or would it perform like the Caped Crusader, losing a little more than half its audience? Split the difference – even though “The Hunger Games” dropped 61% from its opening weeked, the sci-fi drama continued to bust blocks, becoming the fifth-quickest release to pass the $200 million domestic mark, besting two somewhat high-profile new releases. The film also broke the Jim Cameron's "Avatar" record for fastest non-sequel to hit $250 million globally.

Hey y'all! How 'bout those "Hunger Games," huh? Obviously, everyone and their mom went last weekend to the child murder games, and we'll see if it has legs to keep going (we think it does), so if you have to catch up on that one, it is in theaters this weekend! If you already saw it, never fear, there are still creepy kid movies to be found in "Bully" and "Womb" (and "Mirror Mirror" does that count?) Fun! And if not, blockbuster season is officially open with "Wrath of the Titans." CGI-y! And for a nice change of pace, another entry in the classic hockey comedy canon, "Goon" hits U.S. theaters this weekend too. Won't you hit the ice with us?

So a couple of years ago, they remade “Clash Of The Titans.” Do you remember that? No? Well, it was pretty successful. Box Office Mojo says it made about $500 million. There were some special effects. It was in 3D. Gods, monsters, that sort of thing. Seems like a can’t miss thing. Apparently Danny Huston was in it. Well, they’ve made a sequel, believe it or not. Does it match up to the last film? Not sure. It seems this has gone from a forgettable movie to a forgettable franchise.

Is it just us, or has the pre-release marketing of the upcoming “Clash of the Titans” sequel “Wrath of the Titans” been significantly less than when the preceding film debuted around this time two years ago? Other than billboards in posters littering many major cities, we only got our first look back in December, with a couple of sloppy trailers and boring images since.

Sam Worthington, star of the new thriller “Man On A Ledge,” told The Playlist that the most important thing to improve upon in “Wrath Of The Titans,” the sequel to 2010’s “Clash Of The Titans,” was his own performance. “I wasn’t personally happy with my performance,” Worthington said Friday in an exclusive interview. “I didn’t think that I made a character. If you look at it, the way I play it, Perseus is a conduit for action – that’s all he was. He was a wrecking ball, he didn’t really have any personality, and it was a bland performance.”

Warner Bros, not content to merely satisfy fanboys with the awesome new "Dark Knight Rises" trailer, has also unleashed a new tease for a sequel that almost no one demanded: "Wrath of the Titans," the follow-up to 2010's abysmal 3D "Clash of the Titans" remake. And while we're not necessarily excited about this new one (how could we be?), it does look marginally more interesting, certainly more expensive, and generally just more than the first film. But, honestly, we're still using Marilyn Manson's cover of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" to make a trailer seem edgier than it actually is?

We have to admit, we're still excited whenever we get our hands on an issue of Entertainment Weekly and get a first peek at an upcoming movie, even if its something we aren't all that interested in seeing. Since the rise of the internet however, we are pretty glad to not suffer through pages about "The Last Survivor Bachelorette" or whatever mind-numbing reality show is getting a three page spread just to see Ben Stiller in some sweatpants. Shhh. You're welcome. Just take it.
