X-Men: Days of Future Past
Even with home video sales continuing on a downward trajectory, Hollywood seems bound and determined to follow the same playbook they have used since the early '80s introduction of the VCR. So even though "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" will be available digitally on September 23rd and on Blu-ray on October 14th, Fox has just announced that you're better off not bothering with either if you want the extra bells and whistles.

Summer 2014, mixtape
When it comes to the delicate art of the mixtape, context is everything. And in the context of us hurtling toward the end of summer (ok fine, there’s another month left, and a few big releases still on the calendar, but we’re getting nostalgic nonetheless) we thought we’d emulate Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) in this week’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” who has a cherished memento from Earth in the form of a cassette of classic songs, by putting together a mixtape of our own.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Winning over both audiences and critics, "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" managed to take a complicated timeline and dozens of characters, and create something that made more sense and was more exciting than it probably had any right to be. And in the lead up to the film, there was much talk about the roles that were reduced and/or cut during the editing process, most notably those of Rogue (Anna Paquin) and Storm (Halle Berry). Well, not to fear, as they are likely to be added back into the film.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past
As scandals go, Bryan Singer seems to have weathered the sexual abuse allegations aimed at him from earlier this year, rather well. In fact, because there’s been little movement on the case, most of that controversy has been forgotten. At least for now. It probably doesn’t hurt that his “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” is now the highest grossing movie of 2014 worldwide ($712 million), having surpassed “Captain America The Winter Soldier” this past weekend (and it has $11 million to go to unseat “X-Men: The Last Stand” as the highest grossing film in the series domestically). The narrative is fully on the side of all things positive. But in April, when the sex-abuse allegations were in full swing, multiple lawsuits filed and negative media attention swirling, things weren’t looking so bright for the filmmaker.

Marvel Characters That Could Be Movie
What people forget is that while the WB flexes their muscle, Marvel still has a ridiculously untapped listing of characters, both over at Disney as well as other studios like Fox, Universal and Sony.Marvel’s always going to outnumber and outmuscle them in some ways. The WB can only work on making their movies successful on their own terms.

X-Men, Rogue
Having already discussed in depth The Best & Worst Of 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past', there's still more to dig into about the mutant filled movie, particularly when it comes to those who only got a few seconds of screentime. Yes, there will be spoilers, so in case you haven't seen the movie yet, you might want to skip to something else.

Box-Office: Angelina Jolie Has The Biggest Opening Weekend Of Her Career With ‘Maleficent’

Maleficent
Angelina Jolie is one of those curious global superstars. To this day, the highest grossing live-action film she’s ever been in was $186 million for 2005’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” And her top five all-time domestic grosses include three animated movies that she never physically appeared in (two of them being “Kung-Fu Panda” films). This phenomenon— worldwide A-lister actor with disproportionate box-office signal to noise ratio— isn’t uncommon. Before the first “Pirates of the Caribbean” film (which did finally throw him into the realm of true global superstar), Johnny Depp was still on the cover of People Magazine , US Weekly, etc., but his highest grossing domestic release was 1999’s $101-million-grossing “Sleepy Hollow.” Jolie’s partner Brad Pitt has the same deal.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Who knew, after “Iron Man” came out in 2008, that post-credit sequences would eventually be present in almost every subsequent superhero film? There used to be a time when a post-credit scene would usually be relegated to a comedy, like a Zucker-Abrams-Zucker film. Now, they’re used to parlay important information about an upcoming sequel, or in the recent case of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” an advertisement for a completely different franchise. “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is no stranger to this practice, and with the film creating a huge amount of buzz this past weekend, naturally its post-credit sequence has garnered quite a bit of attention as well.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
Yes, time travel is sticky. You know what’s also potentially hazardous? Creating post-credit tag sequences before your next movie is actually ready. Yes, we’ve seen it backfire before. In “The Incredible Hulk,” Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark shows up and tells General Ross he hears he has a problem, with the Hulk saying, “We're putting a team together.” (i.e. “The Avengers”). Of course this would prove to be wrong. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe it’s S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nicky Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) who does the ‘Avengers’ recruiting, and the Hulk doesn’t turn out to be the bad guy in that super-team up.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Well, knock us down with a feather. We'd been positively fearing "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" from afar. It had a been a while since the franchise peaked, and on paper, the giant cast list seemed to promise another "X-Men: The Last Stand"-style mess at best. Plus director Bryan Singer's last film, "Jack The Giant Slayer," was by some distance the worst of his career, and early marketing materials made it look like 'DOFP' had a tiny scope that belied its budget (the second most expensive in Fox's history, after "Avatar"), and made it seem like some kind of mid-'90s vision of the future.
