X-Men: Days Of Future Past
In order to convey that the X-Men are smaller, less-known characters in the Marvel Universe compared to The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man, director Bryan Singer has been given to describe the “X-Men” of late as the “bastard stepchild of the comic-book universe.” And while the X-Men are far from underground or on the fringes, perhaps Singer’s comments do have a tiny bit of merit. While his latest X-picture, “X-Men: Days Of Future Past,” did open to $90.7 million this weekend, that’s far below the forecasted $100+ million the soaring reviews helped project; the film did fall below the opening weekend gross of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Godzilla,” and even the poorly reviewed “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” So yes, ‘Days Of Future Past’ had the 2nd best opening weekend of an X-men movie ever (after "X-Men: The Last Stand"), but relatively, it’s the lowest opening weekend gross of all the summer blockbusters thus far.

X-Men, Best Worst Characters
It is downright amazing that 20th Century Fox has made six “X-Men” films thus far. The seventh, “X-Men: Days Of Future Past,” opens this Friday, and it deals head-on with the history of these movies, toying not only with the already-established mythology, but reintroducing old characters, introduces us to new ones, and making us realize that a ton of mutants have hit the big screen since this franchise’s inception in 2000.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Promotion for “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is in the fullest of swings ahead of this weekend's release. There are digital posters on the London Underground counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until release, which more than anything are sort of stressful to look at: meanwhile on the internet are all manner of clips and things, including a bunch more of the character-focused “power pieces” that we saw last week. These three focus on the future freedom fighter (sort of: it's complicated, like damn near everything X-related these days) Bishop (Omar Sy), new to the franchise, and two returning characters: cold-powered Iceman and Russian strognman Colossus, played by Shawn Ashmore and Daniel Scudmore respectively, both of whom we last saw in “X-Men: The Last Stand” (i.e. the last in the original trilogy).

X-Men: Days of Future Past
The perils of time travel plotting, and maintaining continuity and story logic, within the framework of an already-fantastical superhero universe, are not enviable for any filmmaker. But credit the folks behind “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” for not only negotiating the tricky liabilities of rewriting history, but also creating a world (and story) where if the timestream logic crumbles, it ultimately matters little.

X-Men 2 Hugh Jackman
This weekend, Bryan Singer will be merging two mutant timelines and then doing some fancy time travel trickery to make it all work in "X-Men: Days Of Future Past." It brings together mutants young and old to battle Sentinels and more, so perhaps there's no better time to get reacquainted with the trilogy—or "triquel"—that started it all.

The Wolverine Hugh Jackman
I’m a little worried about Hugh Jackman at the moment, frankly. Either his diet or the jetlag is getting to his head—he is crisscrossing the planet to promote the new X-Men movie after all. One week he’s all like, “I’m never going to play Wolverine again, 99% sure.” And then he flips and flops and flips and flops and has done so again.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past
As critical reaction rolls in for the super-sized sequel, audiences still have to wait another week to see how well Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg have pulled off the ambitious time-traveling plot of “X-Men: Days Of Future Past.” In the meantime, hundred-million dollar marketing campaigns stop for no one which is why there’s a new character "power piece," an interview with some of the mutant stars of the film, and a new featurette.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
The day of “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is soon, everybody. It'll be everywhere next week, and in this day and age (rather than some alternate, sideburn-filled '70s past) that means lots and lots of clips and snippets and featurettes all over the place for the next few days. So here are some which apparently are technically called “power pieces.” Sounds like Wolverine's euphemism for his, ahem, claws.

Channing Tatum, Gambit
You would think that if a relatively big star like Channing Tatum would get caught up in the super hero film sweepstakes, he’d get a better character than the relatively mediocre, sub-character of Gambit from the “X-Men” comics and movies, but evidently the “Magic Mike” star just loves the character.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
It's a helluva gamble. For "X-Men: Days Of Future Past," director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg brought together two generations of mutants, tossed in time travel and hoped it would lead to a powerhouse result. And ... well, not everyone agrees on whether or not the roll of the dice paid off.
