Whatever he gets up to in his spare time – shilling "Ghostbusters 3" and its bizarre array of potential female leads like a crazed beggar man, contemplating selling his organs on Amazon Marketplace, downing a glass of whiskey and sleeping pills whenever a re-run of “Spies Like Us” hits the airwaves – Dan Aykroyd can take solace in the news that at least “Yogi Bear 2” is becoming a reality. While many were decrying last year’s original as a prelude to nuclear holocaust, the film itself managed to net over $200 million worldwide and hence Coming Soon reports that humanity is getting treated to take another suckle on the smoky teat of Yogi. Let this be a lesson to exhausted parents with diminished expectations everywhere.

2010 ended with a whimper with most studio execs facing an uncertain 2011, as the year closed with eight consecutive weekends of box office earning lower than its 2009 counterpart despite five major 3D releases goosing prices. Of course, 3D is a gimmick, but it’s foolish to consider that each of those five films were relative underperformers due to disinterest in the format when even the most ardent fan must admit to subpar product. Of course, the industry is always looking for a scapegoat when the answer is clearly, “terrible movies are being made and should not be,” so the disappearance of 3D (not likely) will happen before a sudden spike in high quality entertainment.

Are you ready for another “Avatar” experience? No? Well, okay, guess that’s fine. “Tron: Legacy” opened to the same midnight numbers as the James Cameron epic, but failed to equal that film’s general attendance or gross in its first weekend. 'Tron' has been pushed for a couple of years now as a near out-of-body cinematic experience, and an opening south of $50 million domestic isn’t really what you're hoping for when you spend $150 million or so in marketing alone. Enthusiasm should be further tempered when you consider this opening is in the realm of “Paranormal Activity 2,” despite that picture forgoing the 3D surcharge.

In Theaters: 'Tron: Legacy,' 'How Do You Know,' 'Yogi Bear,' 'Rabbit Hole'

Hollywood lays out the red carpet for "Tron: Legacy" this week, because there's surprisingly little competition for the 3D spectacle this high-season almost holiday weekend. Sure, there's something for the kids with (shudder) "Yogi Bear" and something for the ladies with "How Do You Know," but 'Tron' is bringing some of that summer blockbuster swagger to winter. Maybe studio execs assume everyone's going to be spending those hard earned bucks on gifts or warm and toasty yuletide libations. At any rate, despite the rather slim pickins there's a little something for everyone at the multiplex, and even some awards-season contenders for those of you who treat Oscar nomination morning like the NFL draft pick.

Either the filmmakers behind the upcoming "Yogi Bear" have a wickedly morose sense of humor or someone is showing off his considerable animation skills, but a viral clip of sorts has hit the web of a (probably fake) alternate ending to the forthcoming animated picture.
