Kevin Costner Confirmed To Be Up For Jonathan KentIt's not so long since we speculated on the choice of villain in the upcoming Zack Snyder-helmed, Christopher Nolan-produced reboot of "Superman"; with Henry Cavill being picked to play the man of steel, it seemed like the next logical step for his adversary to appear, but, despite a number of names cropping up in rumors, it was never entirely clear which villain from the character's 80-year history would be facing off against Clark Kent's alter ego. But, breaking last thing on Friday night, we seem to have an idea of not only who the antagonist will be, but also the actor that seems to be leading the pack to play him.

While the jury will still be out for a few more weeks on whether “Sucker Punch” is actually any good (or at least until it possibly screens secretly at SXSW), Warner Bros. continues to push forward with the film’s marketing. A few days ago they released a second trailer for the film, which resembles more of a music video and somehow gives you even less information about what the film is actually about. Luckily we can provide a synopsis. Basically, the film centers on a girl who enters an alternate reality with her friends and begins planning an escape from a mental institution where she was put by her evil stepfather who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. From there, robots, dragons, airplanes, WWI battlefields and schoolboy fantasies all come into play as the quintet of girls kick ass in a CGI-filled landscape.

With just over a month to go until Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch," this writer thinks Warner Bros. still has a lot of work to do. The brainchild of Snyder the film is an ambitious fantasy action pic but the marketing still doesn't look like it's doing anything but appealing to the niche of fans who are already sold on the film. Basically, to anyone who hasn't been following the film, they won't have any clue what this blitzkrieg of images and music actually means. As one of the Playlist better halves asked us recently: "Is that the medieval Spice Girls movie?"

Alright, Zack Snyder, you're throwing us for a goddamn loop with this one. Updated: Latino Review says if Costner gets this role, and it sounds like he might, that he'll play Pa Kent, Superman's earth-dad, Jonathan "Pa" Kent.

Like any casting run-up for any comic/franchise/tentpole film, a number of actors were rumored and wishlisted, but the names that were in the final running for Zack Snyder's "Superman" included Matthew Goode, Matthew Bomer, Armie Hammer, Joe Manganiello and Colin O’Donaghue. However, what eventually landed Henry Cavill the gig was something as simple as those in the audition room not giggling when he came out dressed in the iconic suit.

WB's 'Sucker Punch' Said To Be Testing PoorlyOne story connects to another. A few minutes ago, Vulture reported that "Sherlock Holmes" helmer Guy Ritchie was evidently being offered the director's chair for the"300" sequel, unofficially known as "Xerxes." Folks stop and ask, wait, isn't this a Zack Snyder project?

Updated: While Ritchie may have read the script and or may have thought about this for a moment. Warner Bros. tells us that the "Snatch" filmmaker is capital N, not directing "Xerxes." Case closed, however, it does appear that Zack Snyder is too busy with "Superman" to make this picture so new directors may be sought in the upcoming months.

We expect some form of denial on this one to come along any moment from the powers that be at Warner Bros., but like anything Lindsay Lohan-related, this rumour is spreading around the internet like wildfire.

Speculation surrounding Zack Snyder's "Superman" shifted direction earlier this week when it was revealed that Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike were all vying for a lead female role in the film that was not Lois Lane (though yes, despite some confusion, that character will still be in the film). Guesses were made at what the role might be -- Lana Lang or Cat Grant perhaps -- however, the part might be one that we've seen before.

Well, here's a bit of an interesting twist. Following the signing on of Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent in Zack Snyder's "Superman," speculation quickly turned to who will play Lois Lane. But word emerges tonight that the hunt is on for a female lead for a character that is not Lois Lane.
