Recap: 'Arrested Development'
Review: 'The Immigrant'The indie flick, shot on a lean budget and of course, on location, features Clarke Peters ("The Wire") in the lead with a cast of mostly unknowns, with the story centering on Flick (Jules Brown), a middle-class Atlanta teenager sent to stay with his grandfather Enoch (Peters), a bishop in the housing projects of Red Hook, Brooklyn. A culture and generation clash occurs between the two characters, but Jules falls into a relationship with Chazz (Toni Lysaith), who shows him a different side the neighborhood.
The film earned strong buzz out of Sundance, where we called it a "remarkable display of a filmmaker reconnecting with his artistic voice." Variance Films will open "Red Hook Summer" in limited release on August 10th. [HeyUGuys]
