'Texas Chainsaw 3D' Sequel Not A Go Just Yet; 'Fright Night 2' Is Happening, But With An All New Cast

It came as a surprise to many when "Texas Chainsaw 3D" topped the box office last weekend, hauling in $21.7 million and beating out "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," "Django Unchained" and "Les Miserables" in the process. What wasn’t so surprising was the subsequent news that a sequel to the movie was already underway. Well, as it turns out, looks like someone might have spoken a little too soon regarding that information.

After there had been reports that Millennium Films were going ahead with another "Texas Chainsaw" film, producer Carl Mazzocone and executive producer Mark Burg are saying “not so fast” to that idea. According to a Deadline report, a new "Texas Chainsaw" film will not move forward until the producers work out all of the creative details with distributor Lionsgate. Naturally, given how successful "Texas Chainsaw 3D" was at the box office this past weekend, it’s understandable that a studio chief would want to go right ahead and dive into a sequel. Still, it may be important to discuss such plans with the actual rights holders before making a public announcement. That said, you can bet it won’t take long before they rev up that chainsaw once again.

Speaking of upcoming sequels nobody’s really looking forward to, Bloody Disgusting reports that a sequel to the 2011 remake “Fright Night” has already started shooting in Romania, but this time, the entire cast of the first film will be replaced by unknowns. The roles of “Evil” Ed (we thought he died?) and Charlie, who were played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Anton Yelchin respectively, will now be replaced by newcomers Chris Waller and Will Payne. It’s doubtful that "Fright Night 2" will be a smooth transition from the first film, but that’s okay considering it’s only getting a direct-to-DVD release.
