Well, here's a remake we forgot about. Way back in the summer of 2011, Sony tapped "Source Code" writer Ben Ripley to pen their remake of the 1990 horror flick "Flatliners," which the studio has been developing since as far back as 2008 when it was conceived as a TV series, with Michael Douglas once mooted to star. Since then things have been quiet, but there may be some movement once again.

Well, here's a remake we forgot about. Way back in the summer of 2011, Sony tapped "Source Code" writer Ben Ripley to pen their remake of the 1990 horror flick "Flatliners," which the studio has been developing since as far back as 2008 when it was conceived as a TV series, with Michael Douglas once mooted to star. Since then things have been quiet, but there may be some movement once again.

Bloody Disgusting reports that Niels Arden Oplev, the helmer behind the Swedish-language "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" starring Noomi Rapace, is now attached to direct the remake. The original film starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt, and centered on a bunch of med students who try to explore the afterlife by killing and reviving each other, only to be haunted by what they've seen. And given Oplev's penchant for dark material, he's a pretty nice choice if it all pans out.

At any rate, all this suggests that doors continue to open for the helmer in Hollywood, as his first studio movie "Dead Man Down" gets set to open next week. Oplev is set to direct the pilot for the already buzz-building Stephen King adaptation "Under The Dome" for CBS, and he's also been linked over the past few years to "The Ring"-meets-"Inception" horror "The Keep" at CBS Films and "Game Theory" at Summit. We'll likely know more on "Flatliners" as press rounds get underway for "Dead Man Down" soon, but refresh your memory with the trailer for the original below.
