As recently as November we were surprised to see a full-blown clip from the follow-up film appear online, because we didn’t even know it had gone in front of cameras…and we were pleasantly surprised by what it contained. Well, apparently that new clip actually dates back a few years and isn’t from the new movie, but instead is a test reel, used to build excitement for the sequel. The sequel does now have a script penned by Im Pil-sung though, and it will be lensed in the near future by debut director Park Myung-chun.
Plot details are scarce, but what has been confirmed is that there will be two different monsters to the one we saw featured in the test reel clip. An early-summer 2014 release date is being eyed, and hopefully that applies to all international territories and not just its native South Korea. Original producer Choi Young-bae is back on board, and Twitch seem to credit the recent success of his controversial, crowd-sourced “26 Years” with finally being able to drag the sequel to "The Host" out of development hell. That can’t be a bad thing, and if Choi and Park can collaborate and create action on a par with what we saw in the previously released clip, then there’s every reason to be excited about what we might see next year.
