Abraham Lincoln, Snow White, G.I. Joe, Batman, The Avengers, Spider-Man, Bourne and...male strippers? It looks like next summer is gonna get more thong filled than you ever expected.
With Warner Bros. locking up the distribution rights to Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike" they've gone ahead and stamped it with a June 29, 2012 release date, pitting it against another beefcake heavy movie, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." It might seem an odd place to put a movie "Saturday Night Fever"-esque tale about a stripper on the rise, but given the star power this should be a marketing slam dunk even with the subject matter. Starring another massive ensemble including Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello along with Gabriel Igelsias, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Betsy Brandt, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Cody Horn, the film penned by Reid Carolin follows an experienced stripper (Tatum) who teaches a younger dancer (Pettyfer) how to hustle his wares on stage and off at the exotic club Xquisite, run by Dallas (McConaughey).
So while the dudes go see Roadblock shoot and blow up stuff, maybe the ladies will go check out the guys shaking their asses on stage? Perhaps. Lord knows that next June has a dearth of options if you've got estrogen, so this could find a very willing and available audience to buy tickets. And given the film is very low budget endeavour, it would take much to put it in the red.

In light of this, three movies that Steven Soderbergh directed will have been released in less than 12 months.
