Based on real events, “Deep Powder” is about an attractive boarding school senior (Haley Bennett) picking up a townie (Shiloh Fernandez) to help her in a drug-run to Ecuador. Looking like a role Blake Lively could have turned down, Bennett (the pop star in “Music and Lyrics” and Terrence Malick's latest muse) plays an '80s-style preppy drug dealer, wreaking blonde havoc whereas Fernandez (“Evil Dead” remake) is in her wake as the ensnared local. If you haven’t guessed it, the title “Deep Powder” is a play on the word powder - the powder on skiing slopes and the powder from Ecuador aka cocaine. “An intense and sexy drama,” the trailer looks like a lost “Gossip Girl” episode revamped into an indie film, but first impressions could be wrong. “Deep Powder” begins screening on April 19th at the Tribeca Film Festival.
