The wait for the Coen Brothers' highly anticipated "True Grit" has just gotten slightly shorter. Paramount has moved up the release date of the film by three days to December 22nd from its original Christmas Day bow.

The movie might seem an odd one at first glance. The film goes from being the lone release on the holiday and enters a crowded Wednesday field where it will battle two dreadful-looking comedies in "Gulliver's Travels" and "Little Fockers," a limited bow from the Gwyneth Paltrow music movie vehicle "Country Strong" and perhaps its biggest competition, the arthouse debuts of Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere" and Sylvain Chomet's "The Illusionist." However, with Christmas falling on Friday this year, we figure Paramount wanted to drop their film in theaters at the same time as the rest of crop that week, and not have their opening and press lost in the rush of Christmas planning/traveling. It makes sense and seems like a smart move.

Starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, the film is sure to be a heavy Oscar favorite. As for Steinfeld, the little-known actress is now starting to do press rounds and you can catch a brief interview with EW here. We're sure there will be more from the remarkably self-assured actress in the weeks to come.
