NBC is carefully stringing us along, hoping to hold our attention until Hannibal premieres, and now two new promos for the Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne-starring series have dropped. Brief as the new spots may be, they deliver on the promise of luxuriously clever gore that comes with the Dr. Lecter brand.

The first displays a severed hand grasping a ringing cellphone -- creepy! The second recycles a memorable line from the trailer -- “He doesn’t want to destroy them, he wants to consume them,” but sets it to a horrific quick-cut slideshow of bloody images. With taglines like “Does his name ring a bell?” and “Before the world feared his name/ He had a beginning,” it’s clear they’re trying to capitalize on the draw that they hope audiences already feel toward the Hannibal Lecter character. It’s true that most of the attention so far has been focused on Mikkelsen’s performance, but Dancy also seems to be doing a solid job as FBI Agent Will Graham -- which isn’t always easy when you’re an attractive actor uttering you-don’t-know-what-you’re-dealing-with type imperatives.

The series premieres April 4th at 10 PM. Tune in to see if NBC has anything but a talented cast to add to the legend. [HitFix]
