We're living in a time where there are some TV shows that we're looking forward to as much, and perhaps more, than many movies. Considering the talent that's crossing over to the small screen, and the freedom to tell provocative, rich stories that wouldn't work or be given the space to breathe in the studio system, perhaps it's not such a surprise. Certainly, "True Detective" is one show that's high on our Must Watch list for 2014 (and perhaps it'll take the place of "Breaking Bad" for addictive viewing).
Directed by Cary Fukunaga, and pairing up Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson — which alone is enough for us — the limited series follows a pair of detectives who continually cross paths during a 17-year manhunt for a Louisiana serial killer. But this isn't "CSI." As these five new teaser clips bear out, something far more surreal is happening here, with Fukanaga clearly making good use of Louisiana's special charm, and fully embracing the oddities that can lie on the fringe. We're intrigued and the viral site of sorts Darkness Becomes You, will surely offer up more goodies as we get closer to the premiere.
"True Detective” arrives on HBO in January 2014. Watch below. [Indiewire]
